Geoff Penton wins the Presidents Cup

The ODGC’s 2009 Presidents Cup Series came to a close on Saturday, November 21 at Flat Mountain Disc Golf Course.

Geoff Penton ended his run for the 2009 Presidents Cup in style by winning the Ottawa Match Play League III – his sixth tier 2 win of the year. Geoff finished with 2550 points, 376 points over second place finisher, Carl Visser, and 525 over third place, Eric Vinet.

The Club is also proud to recognize this year’s Bourgie Saucer Race winner, Andrew Vallee, for the improvement he’s made to his game and his dedication to the sport and the Club. This award was named after ODGC President Paul Bourgeois who developed the handicap system for the Tuesday Night League (TOSS). The system levels the playing and provides players with an easy way to measure their improvement.

The inaugural PC Series saw 32 ODGC members (and 13 non-current ODGC members) compete in 10 events, run by 6 TDs, on 7 temporary and permanent disc golf courses, from February to November.

Now that’s alotta golf!

The Presidents Cup Race comes down to LNF

Once in a lifetime. This October.

Tensions will be high at League Night Finals 2009 as the 2009 Presidents Cup Championship is still up for grabs. Following a second place finish at The Plaid Jacket, Carl Visser is right on the heels of points race leader, Geoff Penton.

Geoff will clinch the PC series championship with a win or a second place finish at LNF. Geoff has won five tier 2 events (Ice Bowl, King of the Oonie, MOD, The Goat, TOSS), but his lackluster showing so far at tier one events calls his ability to defend his 2008 LNF title into question.

Geoff needs a top two finish at LNF to guarantee he takes home the cup. Without a top two finish, here is how Carl can bring home the hardware: a win from Carl, and a 3rd or worse finish by Geoff; or a top two finish for Carl and a 4th or worse finish from Geoff.

This race will come down to the wire. The secret home to League Night Finals is the toughest and most unpredicatable course in Ottawa. Anything and everything can happen. And it usually does!

Proposed alternate conclusion: Of course, Jeff could dominate and Geoff and Carl could both suck, which would result in no change at all!

12th Annual Plaid Jacket Disc Golf Tournament

Ottawa City Championships: September 19, 2009.

Under sunny skies and light winds, 60 players came out to enjoy a great day at Jacques Cartier Parc, the original site of disc golf in the Ottawa area. ODGC volunteers were able to recreate a favourite layout from past years by generously providing portable baskets for the event.

This year featured the most competitive tournament ever. In the Advanced Division, seven players qualified for the final Super-9, three tied in the lead, the other four only one shot behind, and it was a battle right to the very end. Congratulations to our 2009 Plaid Jacket winners, Ken Darcovich of Ottawa in the Advanced Division, Christiane Marceau of Montreal in the Women’s Division and Ray Farquhar of St. Lazare, QC in the Intermediate Division.
