All questions, concerns and intentions to participate should be directed to Ben Svetkoff (On-Site TD) or Geoff Penton (On-Line TD). No Forum posted questions/comments/suggestions will be responded to from the directors of the event.
REGISTRATION CLOSES Noon, Wednesday April 25th, 2012.
Like previous years, there will be no Players Meeting at the course in the morning. Shortly after 12:01 pm, Wednesday the 25th, the Players Meeting will take place on the Forum. It will be in the ODGC Tournaments and Events forum under the thread name "King of the Oonie 2012 - Players Meeting". All information needed will be made available through this media.
Though this is not a PDGA event, I would like to point the PDGA Rule on one of your responsibilities as a player:
Quote: | 804.01 Special Conditions
A. Rules governing special conditions that may exist on the course shall be clearly defined and disseminated to all players prior to the start of the tournament. All special conditions shall be covered in the players' meeting. Each player is responsible for adhering to all points covered in the player's meeting. |
ODGC Pelican
ODGC Pelican Team Captain Eric Vinet, will guarantee a spot on the team for the King of the Oonie Champion!
The winner must be a current ODGC Member at the time of the first tee time to be guaranteed a spot on the ODGC Pelican Team. No exceptions will be made. Dues must be paid up.
Round Formats
First Round will be Kanata Shorts.
The "field" holes (#2, #3, #7 of the pre-2010 re-design - which are re-numbered 3, 4, and 8 ) will be "island" holes for all Short Tees.
Second Round will be Kanata Longs (no island features) (9 holes).
Third Round (non-Final Round - if needed) will be Kanata Longs with "island" features for the field holes (9 holes).
Final Round will be one round of Kanata Longs and one round of Kanata Shorts with island features for both rounds (18 holes).
Byes
Where the number of players registered may require that certain players be issued a "bye" through one round of match play, the following shall govern how byes are handled:
Special Conditions:
1) The King (the defending champion) shall not receive a bye. The King must defend their title by participating in every round.
2) No competitor may receive more than one (1) bye.
Byes to be Minimized:
1) Byes will be scheduled so as to minimize the number of byes and/or to schedule these as early in the competition as possible.
2) Any decision to schedule byes shall be at the discretion of the tournament director.
Byes to be Assigned Randomly:
1) Where the tournament director decides to assign a bye, the names of all players eligible to receive a bye through the respective round shall be placed into a hat. Names shall be drawn randomly from the hat to assign the bye.
2) Once a player's name has been pulled from the hat, it shall not be replaced in the hat.
A Bye is not a Free Pass:
1) Players receiving a bye must pay the required fee in order to remain in the tournament. Players receiving a bye pay only one fee for the respective round.
Lunch
There will be no time set aside for a lunch break, so please plan accordingly. Rounds will start ASAP after the previous round.

The Loonie Rounds
Paul Bourgeois wrote: | King of the Oonie Tournament Pairings and Divisions
The scheduling and match pairings for The Oonie are being organized with two divisions:
The Twoonie Division: Player who remain undefeated participate in the Twoonie division.
The Loonie Division: Players who have lost only one match participate in the Loonie division. The Twoonie division runner-up is the only player that will not be allowed into the Loonie division.
All players begin the day in the Twoonie division, and your first-round match pairings will be randomly selected and posted prior to the event.
Those players that win their match continue in the Twoonie division, where they will be randomly paired against other Twoonie competitors. Consecutive rounds will see players fall out of the Twoonie pool until only two players remain. Those players will compete in a final match of 18, and the winner will become The King of the Oonie.
Following the first round, those players that have been eliminated from the Twoonie division compete in the Loonie division. Loonie division player will be randomly paired against other Loonie division competitors. In order to remain in the Loonie division, players must win their matches.
On losing a match in the Loonie division, players are free to enjoy the day in whatever way they like. Start times will be allocated for eliminated players should they wish to continue playing disc golf.
As the rounds proceed, players will fall into the Loonie pool by being eliminated from the Twoonie pool, and players will fall out of the Loonie pool by losing a match there. When the final round of 18 is being played by the Twoonie division, the Loonie division competitors will move into a playoff.
Depending on the number of players remaining, Loonie division participants will be randomly paired against each other in a match of 9. This match will occur at the same time as the Twoonie division is playing their final front 9. Winners of their respective match will then compete in a final round of skins with the skin values determined by the size of the Loonie pot. This will occur while the Twoonie division is playing the back-9 of their final match. The Loonie skins match will be played over a round of 6, with any unawarded skins after 6 being decided in a sudden-death elimination format.
As is the rule for this tournament, Twoonie competitors must add a twoonie to their division payout pot for each round of 9 that they participate in (the final round is considered two rounds of nine for purposes of paying the pot). Loonie competitors must add a loonie to their division payout pot for each round of 9 that they participate in, including the final skins should they make it.
Good luck! |
Further explanation of Loonie Round:
burjwahzeh wrote: | OMR wrote: | I'm in.
Little unclear about the final loonie skins round tho. Who plays it? is the round just prior to the skins comprised of 4 players? Then the two winners of that round go on to the skins round? |
To be clear:
Loonie round 1 takes place during twoonie round 2.
In a 16 player field, there will be 4 twoonie rounds.
Loonie round 3 begins when twoonie round 4 (the 18-run finals) begins.
The four winners of loonie round 2, and the two losers of twoonie round 3 play in loonie round 3, making 3 matches.
Whoever wins those three matches played in loonie round 3 plays in the 6-run skins final which should take place during the 2nd half of the twoonie final.
If there are only 8 competitors, only 4 will be left in the loonie bracket at the beginning of the finals. These will play in one of 2 matches, and the 2 winners will play for the skins. |

Due to an overwhelming amount of PMs, the King's "Responsibilities" have been removed. |

Oh that. I've had that CC'd for a couple of years. It's not for the name, but the structure of the event. It's already been "ripped" off almost word-for-word, taking the word "twoonie" out for $10, and "loonie" for $5. _________________ Boyle says BOOM! |

Match play eh... I think I'm in. Just have to ask for clearance and figure out a ride...
No lunch is provided, will there be time to eat something? What time does this wrap up, I guess that depends on the participation. |

Since there will probably only be 8 people ( I will fill in if required), we will probably be done by 12~ 1 pm. So no real lunch time is required. There will be breaks between rounds to snack. _________________ "Terry believes in having a clear topic sentence."
