|
|
We are in for a treat this Sunday.
The course was walked and talked last night and the Plaid Design Crew has planned out a really fun 18 hole course, using most of the existing 12 and essentially using the same route as the Plaid 2010 edition. This is going to be a great day of golf.
The owner of the Canadian was kinda miffed that we didn't use the white ball tees last year, so guess what...we're using them this year.
He walked the course with Twirly last week and showed us more places for us to use on the white ball course, so guess what...we're using them.
These new allowances are going to take out some of the dead walks and connect the holes a whole lot better, plus we've snuck some sweet par 3s in where we didn't think we should go last year.
So here goes...
Hole 1 has been tweaked a bit. We didn't like the numbers from last year so we've made the hole longer (to make it a better par 4). The Plaid Division will be driving from the White Ball Tee (WBT) for 1 and we've put the basket a little higher on the hill with the sand trap (sand trap IB; please rake). The AM/Women divisions will be firing from last year's Yellow tee. (Par 4)
(The Blue tees have been designed to bring the same "hazards" that are in play from the Yellows. And the pars have been kept the same.)
Hole 2, because we liked the numbers from last year, has stayed the same. (Par 3)

Hole 3 will stay the same (Blues will be a tad closer; I think on the map it's 30' closer).

Hole 4 has been elongated (because we didn't like the numbers from last year) and is looking like a better par 4. Blues are 400', Yellows 438'. (Par 4)
Hole 5 is a new one. It's a kind of a scary par 3 with the basket sitting on an inlet, 21' from the pond. Long grass and reeds may keep you safe...or they'll knock you down into the drink. There are outs from the Yellows and the Blues. (Par 3)
New number 6 will start at the Yellow WBT (Cool, eh? The WBT have Yellows and Blues too) and will be a big pull to a substantial sized landing zone to set up a ~200' up shot for birdie 3. Blues will be 70' closer, firing from the runway WBT Blues, to give the same landing zone and upshot opportunity. (Par 4)
Hole 7 (old #5) will stay the same for Blues and Yellows. (Par 4)
Hole 8 is a nice little hole over the OB WB Green (WBG) and into the forest. Lot's of routes. Lot's of oops. (Par 3)

Hole 9 (old 6) will essentially be the same for Yellows, but we'll be teeing from the WBT Yellows, instead of the grass beside it. Blues will use the Blue WBT just off to the left (giving a more forgiving hyzer) and 20' shorter. Basket will be where we remember it to have been.
Hole 10 is a fun little ace run with dyre putting consequences. The Bing Map is apparently an old one, as there is now IB sand traps all around the OB WBG. They cut into the hill back there wonderfully. Behind the basket is a drop off to the cart path, and a little further back, the forest. Wicked awesome. The Blues and Yellows may be the same, or a slight difference in length. (Par 3)
Hole 11 (old 7) is going to use the WBTs. Pretty much the same distance, but a slightly different angle.
New hole 12 is a nice dog leg to the right, with a chance to "cheat" the vertical tree line for the really big arms. We will be using the WBTs for this one as well, and I can't see them on Bing. (Roxie rolled a beaut up the WB Fairway). Yellows will use the Yellow WBT, Blues the Blues. (Par 4)

Hole 14 (old 9) will stay the same, with the shared Yellow/Blue tee pad.
Now this is where it gets wicked awesome.
We're dropping old 10 and adding a much better par 3 in 15. The pine trees line the fairway. The large tree is about 100' high. And the green circle that I drew is the base of a 30-40' high hill! Killer. So much fun. The shot will be a straight at'er with the basket on the side of the mound, about 10' elevation.
Wait for 16!

OK, this is where the design crew gets nasty. But man, don't tell me you wouldn't have done the same.
A brilliant par 4 hole, that will reward long drivers (with a good approach) and good short-gamers (with a nice drive). Both the Blues and Yellows have been designed to keep the big arms in each division slightly honest with their drive (the water comes into play at ~ 300' for the Blues, and ~375' for the Yellows).
The green for 16 is the Yellow WBT and is ELEVATED with an incredibly awesome grass wall/cliff making you really think about your approach to the green.
This will probably be the Re/Max Super 6 final hole. So exciting. So sick. |

The biggest complaint we heard from players about last year's course was 11. If it was me in charge, that would be a great reason to keep it in. But sadly (or thankfully) I'm not.
Joking aside, we've taken out a pretty boring DG hole and replaced it with a tricky wooded par 3 (~210') for hole 17. Should be fun. A wooded technical hole in the middle of two par 4s. Nice.
Hole 18 (old 12) will keep the same Yellow tees and make the Blue tees from last year longer, to keep it in the par 4 range. _________________ Boyle says BOOM!

So what does that make:
1 - Par 4 (New Tee for Bleu and Yellow and New Pin Placement)
2 - Par 3
3 - Par 3
4 - Par 4 (NT)
5 - Par 3 (New Hole)
6 - Par 4 (NH)
7 - Par 4
8 - Par 3 (NH)
9 - Par 5 (NT)
10 - Par 3 (NH)
11 - Par 3 (NT)
12 - Par 4 (NH)
13 - Par 4
14 - Par 3
15 - Par 3 (NH)
16 - Par 4 (NH)
17 - Par 3 (NH)
18 - Par 4 (NT Blue)
Par - 64 (for both Blues and Yellows. Cool, eh?) _________________ Boyle says BOOM! |

There you have it. We've added 8 holes. Took out 2. Tweaked a couple. Gave ourselves some launch pads for our drives. Took out most of the dead walks and made it flow like water. Oh yeah, we added more water holes. Sorry. Not really.

Anywhere the basket is beside a green...unless there is much more space than it looks between greens and baskets |

You answered it on your own.
Any baskets that "flirt" (and I use that term loosely) with a WBG (8, 10, 11, 16, 18 ) have either a very large space between the basket and WBG (16, 18, 11), or you are throwing over the WBG early in the throw (8, 10)and if you chose to throw a thumber the WBG wouldn't come into play. Thumber away my friend!
