As TD tonight, it's my call to make as to whether or not we play.

PDGA Competition Manual (all bold emphasis mine):

Section 1.7 wrote:
A. If, in the opinion of the director, excessive rain or hazardous conditions exist that make it impractical or dangerous to continue play, the tournament shall be suspended. The signal to suspend play shall be the same as the signal to start.
If we have to suspend, I will call "Shut it down!" and hope that all players will relay this message across the mountain. (Since we don't really have a starting signal that can be communicated across the mountain at TOSS).

Quote:
B. Players shall immediately stop play and mark the lie of each member of the group. A natural object is sufficient to mark the approximate lie from which the player shall resume play.
Please use a natural object to mark your lie, as if we do experience inclement weather, there is the strong possibility that we will not resume play this evening, and I don't want you to have to climb back up to pick up discs left on the ground to mark lie.

Quote:
Players shall then return to the first teeing area, clubhouse, tournament central or area designated by the director.

C. Players shall resume play from their approximate lies as established when the round was halted. The approximate lie is determined by a majority of the group.

D. The director may allow players to take a break while waiting for weather to improve, but may require players to return at a time assigned by the director until play resumes or until the round is postponed.

E. The director may postpone the incomplete portion of the round for a later date if, in the director's opinion, the conditions will not improve or if darkness will fall prior to the projected finish time.

F. Partial round scores shall be carried forward to the completion of the round whenever the round is resumed.

G. A player who stops playing before a signal to stop has been given shall receive two penalty throws if, in the opinion of the director, the player stopped playing prematurely.

H. The Tournament Director will make every effort to complete all rounds of the tournament as scheduled.

(1) If a total of 54 holes or fewer holes are scheduled. All players must complete a minimum of 18 holes for the event to be considered official.

(2) If a total of 72 holes are scheduled. All players must complete a minimum of 36 holes for the event to be considered official.

(3) If these criteria are not met, all efforts will be made to reschedule the event. If rescheduling is impossible, a full refund will be issued minus player’s package, PDGA, and other associated event fees...
Has a TOSS ever been postponed/cancelled before? What is the normally accepted decision? To cancel, or to postpone and finish the round at a later date?

Why the headshake? (grammar?)

I thought it was a valid question.

DGing with lightning in the forecast poses serious risk.

DGing with lightning in the forecast poses no risk. DGing while lightning poses risks, regardless of what Twirly says.

I hate getting hit by lightning - especially when I'm trying to putt.

If you see/experience threatening lightning (you know, like, not fifteen miles away over downtown), you must stop play, mark your position, and find shelter or return to Tournament HQ. The TD will not penalize you for stopping before the stop signal is sounded.

I don't want anyone getting hurt out there.

That being said, if you experience lightning but the round is not halted (b/c the TD is on 5 and the lightning was on 12, for example), and the lightning passes, it is your responsibility to complete the round this evening.

Radar map shows one very thin band that will sweep us between 6 and 7ish

It is really thin and shouldn't last more than a few minutes, but it does have lots of pretty colors in it

Point. I should probably see a doctor about the colors

Preregistration will close today at 3:30 PM. If you miss the pre-registration, please be at the course by 6:00 PM SHARP.

Again, I want us to be out throwing discs at 6:15, so we have as much light as possible.

See you all in a couple of hours!
