Is there a universally accepted layout for Best-Of?

The un"official" Best Of is the above. It plays the original tees, and/or minimizes the walk past tees, and keeps the walk to a pleasant hike on the mountain.

I agree with you on all except #1. #1 longs is spectacular and should be included in any best of list for CF

I think 9 long is a MUCH better hole than 9 shorts.

Yeah, I know it makes the walk more difficult and lengthier, but I've always considered the extra effort worth it.

I would agree with you that #1 is probably the greatest starting hole of any course I've played (no other would explain to you what you just got yourself into), the Best Of was "designed"/played to come up with the funnest and easiest (read: less tiring) way to play CF. Ben, Meldrum and I would meet up there and play a fun round of the Best Of where we took out the big climbs and secondary tee pads.

Seeing that only one group, during TOSS, will get the experience of starting on 1, (and the rest will have to make the walk from 18 ) and that shorts have a greater chance to score on, I consider the shorts of 1 part of Best Of.

Nice on the 1000.

The name "Best Of" is deceiving. It's not always the best of the options. It's the best way to play CF (in the opinion of a few).

I guess "Best Of" just sounds nicer than "Minimal Effort".

You could argue the better tee for a lot of these.

Hole 1 has already been discussed a bit.

Hole 2 I see no real comparison. The shorts are one the best holes on the hill, maybe in the region. Longs are as Thumber would write "m'eh".

Hole 3 could be either too, but you walk right by the long pad, why not throw it. The longs are a great par 4. The shorts are really nice too.

Hole 5 shorts is an original tee for the hole. It's freakin awesome. The longs is just a bad cover of the shorts.

Hole 6 should have the same homage as 4 and 17, and really only have one pad, but the shorts are nice enough so whatever, more golf holes are always a good thing.

Hole 7 doesn't really matter except that longs have the original feel of the design of the hole, where you have to get it through the gap and then get to the green (the green last night looked awesome!).

Hole 8 longs is an original.

Hole 9 could have a whole thread dedicated to which is the better tee. Simply put, we liked dropping our bag on the box and walking up to our discs on 8. So simple.

Hole 10 longs is an original tee. As is 11.

Hole 12. The shorts are a great par 3. The longs are a great little par 4. Some good arguements on this one could happen.

Hole 13 longs is an original tee.

Hole 14 doesn't really matter, but just to keep things fair, longs it is.

Hole 15 is an original tee and much funner than the shorts.

Hole 16 shorts. I don't have an explanation for this one.

Hole 17 is the BEST hole ever on the Mountain. It's the only hole that has survived EVERY Meldrum re-design. The green has moved around and the tee has gotten bigger, but the idea has always been the same.

Hole 18 is m'eh. So go shorts for the excitment. Maybe?

I think 2 Short might be the best hole on the hill. It's certainly my favourite, anyways.

Truth told, it's no longer necessary to walk past the 3 long tee to get to 3 short. Just take the path directly across from the 2 green up through the woods to get to 3 shorts now. That being said, I'm ambivalent about which is the better hole. 3 long is definitely more challenging, 3 short brings the trees on the right side of the fairway into play on your drive, probably making for a more technical shot?

Longs: more forgiving, and possibly faster for speed of play because there are less discs drifting into the woods on the left side than there are off the shorts?

How about going back to teeing off of the deck for 7? being evil big grin

Shorts is far more challenging than longs, and one of only ?two? true anhyzer drives off the pad on the course. Also, my second favourite hole on the course.
Quote:
Hole 10 longs is an original tee. As is 11.
And both are superior to their short companions. Especially 11.

Again, why take the only other anhyzer drive out of the course. Shorts all the way, and my third favourite hole on the course. 12 Long is punishing without near pinpoint accuracy on your drive. One of my least favourite holes on the course.
Quote:
Hole 14 doesn't really matter, but just to keep things fair, longs it is.
I'm ambivalent about 14. Both are good little shortie holes, and equally challenging to make the gap.
Quote:
Hole 15 is an original tee and much funner than the shorts.
...and the way Jess and I drove off there (not you, CARL), it's awesome. Love 15 long. 15 shorts is too easy to make birdie on. Just drive overstable into the embankment, and make the putt.
Quote:
Hole 16 shorts. I don't have an explanation for this one.
For speed of play, the shorts definitely own. There's also a legitimate (but tough) run at the basket for 2 from the shorts, that really isn't there from the longs, I think.
Quote:
Hole 17 is the BEST hole ever on the Mountain. It's the only hole that has survived EVERY Meldrum re-design. The green has moved around and the tee has gotten bigger, but the idea has always been the same.
Enough said. And well said. My fourth favourite on the course.
Quote:
Hole 18 is m'eh. So go shorts for the excitment. Maybe?
Making a 3 from either pad is about equally as tough, so I'd agree with you there. How about going guerrilla for 18, and driving from the mountain bike path beyond 7 basket? smile smile
