Hey all. Some of you know that I've been working on designing a course on the 100 acres my parents own outside Brockville.
I'm thinking about hosting a one-day, two-round tournament there this summer at some point, and this thread is all about gauging interest from the club. If there is enough interest, I'll make it official, and invite Toronto (~3hour) and Montreal (~2 hour) people to join as well. Let's tentatively say that the date would be Saturday, June 11, 2011. (Oddly enough, that's exactly 100 days from today.)
The course is located approximately 75 minutes from the intersection of the 416 and 417, about five minutes North of Mallorytown, Ontario. Yeah, it's a bit of a drive, but so is Johhny Pytel's!
I've got a pretty solid 14 holes set out there right now, but I plan to expand that to a full 18 this spring. There are no targets in place right now, but Tonals will be going in on a permanent basis this year, and I hope to be able to source baskets for tournament day. Still working on that.
So, answer the poll, would you drive an hour and a quarter plus for a two round, one day tournament? I'm thinking small entry fee to cover a catered lunch (barbecue, more than likely), and that's about it. _________________ Go Sens!

I'm also looking for some experienced course designers to join me for a day sometime this spring to discuss the course layout. If you're willing to do this, please let me know. I'll drive, and will buy you a fantastic home cooked dinner provided by me dear-ol-mum.
Also, should there be enough interest that this becomes an actual tournament, would you be interested in it being an ODGC sanctioned event? I have no idea how that process works, but if there's interest, I'll explore it.
Cheers,

My reply to your post is not neatly summarized by a voting bullet, so I'll put it in words instead.
All of what you're doing and proposing is great.
If I'm free that day, I'd love to play in an event like that, with or with out Toronto players, with tonals or standard baskets.
Designing a course, setting up a disc golf event, inviting people to come and play are all to be applauded.
I hope I can make it there on June 11. |

I would most likely be in because I could leave my kids and wife at the inlaws in Kingston and the drive would be short. The country out there is fantastic. Is there rocky outcrops and trees or mostly field? You should put a poster up at the legion in Mallorytown and see who all comes out from around town. A funny duck place with big hearted people. A breaky trip Sunday morning at the Legion would be fun as well. I would love to help out but I am pinned down right now with kids stuff. Maybe I could bring some cookies or something.
I will see if anyone from Ktown wants to join in the fun, but you should post something on Rideau Acres board. |

Sounds like a good idea.
I'm already booked that weekend for something else unfortunately.
I'd observe that you're looking at the weekend right after the Bigman. You may find some people not able to make both in such close proximity to each other. Something I'd consider in setting your date and expectations. |

I'll be posting far-and-wide once things are firmed up.
Thumber, you're absolutely correct, I missed the Big Man when I was checking schedules. I think I've checked everywhere now, and perhaps August 13 might be a better day, unless that's the tentative Pelican weekend.
I'll leave it as is for now, and see what others think about the date. If there's too much negative based on the date, I'll probably move it.
Cheers,

Pretty sure the Pelican's date has yet to be confirmed.

I would but it depends on a lot of things, start time, end time, local accommodations if necessary, etc...

Catered dinner but no lunch?
IMO forgo the players pack, this is your first tournament make it as bare bones as you can in terms of event costs. _________________ Hyzer enthusiast |

I'm without a car, but if I can swing someone with wheels here in Montreal we would love to make it! Always worth the drive both for a new course and to help a brutha discer out with the support.
Of course, all this being if I can make it.
Otherwise, an incredibly worthy project that I would love to support in any way I can.
That weekend of June 11 IS open, but it's also Father's Day on the Sunday (however Dads usually get the short end of the stick compared to Mother's Day).
If you decide to do it the following weekend you should not expect anyone from Montreal as Mitch St. Pierre will be showcasing his new course with a tournament--near Drummondville.
I hope to be able to attend your event Mark!
Felicitations! |

It's looking more and more like I picked a bad date with June 11. Keep providing input, but I'll likely be doing it on another, better date. Most likely mid-August.
Stay tuned, fans! _________________ Go Sens! |
