You would think that would put more stress on the knee. I wonder if he does it for a specific reason, or if it's just the natural way he throws.

A lot of the top guys do that.

My guess is that the heel is a faster/cleaner pivot point.

You can really spin through your throw off your heel.

Any of you guys pivot on your heel? From run up through release, I'm almost always on the balls of my feet. Just out of curiosity, I tried pivoting on my heel, and man does it ever feel unnatural!

yeah, seems much quicker, in terms of spin speed and (consequently) the duration of your throw from backswing to point of release...

I noticed Lacosta (or whatever his name is) was spinning on his heel when he aced that scandanavian open hole...

Like Chuck said, most top pros spin on their heels. But top pros tee off on rubber, cement, or asphalt pads, and all were running/cross-trainer shoes, skate shoes, or a day hiker. Fairways are usually well maintained and disc-golf-manicured.

In Ottawa we have grass pads, and difficult terrain, and most of us wear a more aggressive shoe, which doesn't lend itself to a heel spin. In fact, it freakin hurts the knee when you try the HS in cleats.
