Further explanation of Loonie Round:

Little unclear about the final loonie skins round tho. Who plays it? is the round just prior to the skins comprised of 4 players? Then the two winners of that round go on to the skins round?

To be clear:
Loonie round 1 takes place during twoonie round 2.

In a 16 player field, there will be 4 twoonie rounds.

Loonie round 3 begins when twoonie round 4 (the 18-run finals) begins.
The four winners of loonie round 2, and the two loosers of twoonie round 3 play in loonie round 3, making 3 matches.

Whoever wins those three matches played in loonie round 3 plays in the 6-run skins final which should take place during the 2nd half of the twoonie final.

If there are only 8 competitors, only 4 will be left in the loonie bracket at the beginning of the finals. These will play in one of 2 matches, and the 2 winners will play for the skins.

Just played Kanata, and I love the new island features. Makes the course much more interesting.

An idea that I haven't fully thought out yet: You could probably be included in the Loonie rounds. Thoughts?

Great. Next year I'll plant a forest in the field and possibly elevate some of the tees and pins.

Doesn't the Loonie round determine PC point rankings?

No. This was "discussed" last year. But I'll quote it here as well.

Shouldn't Shane have more than the other 3 of us who lost in that round immediately before the Loonie Skin rounds? I think he should have 100 pts more.

This was posted in another thread and I will answer it here.

The King of the Oonie is all about the Twoonie round. The Loonie round is not mentioned in the description of the tournament:

Quote:

The King of the Oonie
Match Play Elimination Tournament

Date: Saturday May 2, 2008

Course: Flat Mountain Disc Golf Course, Mountain, ON

Costs: $10 Registration Fee (includes Green Fees)
+$5 Non-ODGC Members
$2 per round played

Format: Match Play Elimination Tournament

Information:

* Players pay a Twoonie for every 9 hole round they play. The more you win, the more you PlAY.
* First round matches will be randomly drawn 3 days before the tournament.
* First round start times will be posted 2 days before the tournament.
* You must win the match outright to continue in the tournament.
* There are no ties. Tie-breaker holes are played until a hole is won.
* The Final Round will be 18 holes; the finalists pay two Twoonies each.
* The winner takes all the Twoonies.
* Players eliminated in the first or second round can participate in a Loonie-per-round sub-tournament.
* You Must Pre-Register. Walk-ons will not be allowed to participate.
* All player information will be posted on the ODGC Forum: Tournament thread.

Details:
* All rounds are 9 holes, except the final round.
* Participants only pay Twoonies until they’re eliminated.
* Earliest start time is 9:00am.
* Starting holes are 1, 4, and 9. You will be assigned a starting hole.
* A match is over when one player leads by a number of holes greater than the number remaining to be played.
* Tie breakers are “sudden death” and played in sequence (if you finish on 9, you continue on 10, then 11 if necessary).

The standings for the Presidents Cup Race is based on your performance in the King of the Oonie. Not the Loonie round. The Points are based on your finish in the King of the Oonie rounds (Twoonie rounds). I apologize if that doesn't seem clear to some, but I'm not about to get into the complications involved in finding out who deserves how many points.

Take the instance of Carl and Shane; Carl made it to the Semi-Finals, and Shane got bumped in the Quarters. Shane beat Carl in the Loonie rounds SKINS. Who gets more points? What should the difference be?

Not to take anything from Shane and his performance in the Loonie rounds, but that's not the main competition. Carl made it further and deserves to be recognized for his success in the main part of the tournament.

The BS Points were based on the Loonie Round.

Bourgie Saucer Points for the Oonie are based on your finish in the Loonie rounds.

As you can see Penton and Lariviere didn't get any BS points.

But I can see the complications with involving new-comers to the event. Sorry Stace and Gobbles. Though we will still be thrilled to have you come out and hang out with us.

Congratulations KING ANDREW!!!!

A gorgeous day of golf at The Kanata Disc Golf Course, the new Home of the Oonie!

An enormous "Thank You" to the 12 men who came out the 2010 King of the Oonie.

Thanks for reading the Players Meeting thread prior to arriving.

Thank you for dropping your Twoonies and Loonies in the jars prior to your rounds.

Thank you for making the third year of the Oonie just as fun as the last two. I hope you had fun too.

As always, a big thank you to Paulie (sadly MIA) who helped write all the rules for this tournie, allowed me to bounce ideas off him, designed the Loonie rounds. We missed you.

Thanks of course to Ben for getting up at ungodly hours of the morning to help set up, mark the course, marshal the third and championship round and do all the small things I forget to do.

Thanks to Andros for coming out on Wednesday to construct the islands for the field holes. I thought they were awesome, but I always landed in them.

Thanks to Cyle, Ben and Andros who took down the temp holes and tees.

Thanks to the Loonie Skin Foursome (Shane, Don, Colin and Geoff R.) for bringing in the #7 island flags...in the rain!

Thanks to my dad, who turned an unwanted wedding present into the King of the Oonie trophy.

Thanks to the ODGC for their baskets and course. The new layout plays nice.

And I say it every year, so why not again:

"A tournament that supports the community and course, and rewards the winners appropriately; for throwing plastic, not performing brain surgery. Not bad for 12 players.

The success of this tournament has made it even more evident to me that tournaments that offer intrinsic rewards over extrinsic rewards for the winners, while helping courses and clubs grow, is the way our sport is going to grow. Great players don't need plastic; they need recognition and a high class arena to display their talents. This will only happen if support is given at the foundation of the game; the clubs and courses."
