The Ice Bowl cometh!

Scratch in Saturday, February 9th on your calendar, as it marks the return of an Ottawa winter tradition... the ICE BOWL!

As in previous years, this event is a charitable fundraiser for the Ottawa Food Bank. Last year we were able to make a donation of over $2,300 and over 1,000 lbs of food, making our event one of the most successful Ice Bowls on the planet.

Our efforts in fundraising and food donations, along with our playing conditions (temperature & snow depth), along with the number of participants helped earn us top honours in the Great Canadian Ice Bowl Challenge.

However... those pesky guys in Calgary raised more money than us... AGAIN! (yeah DonnyWest... I know you read our forum...) wink This year we will provide any pre-paid registrant with a fund-raising pledge form sheet with which they can raise money for their individual efforts. The top-7 fundraisers will get A LOT of Ice Bucks as their reward, and as anyone who has been to one of our Ice Auctions knows, disc golfers can get some sweet and rare prizes with theire Ice Bucks.

You'll be playing in tough winter conditions, regardless of the temperatures, so it should be an easy sell to all those co-workers and friends of your who dropped their kids 5km walk/run pledge form sheets that you've donated to over the years.

Beat Calgary! Beat them down! (Oops, did I say that... I'm happy they raised a lot for their charity... but we should still BEAT THEM!) cool

That goes for you too Kamloops Clinty! Razz

You can sign up for the Ice Bowl online starting today at:

http://www.odgc.ca/signup

The upper limit that we have set for this tournament is 45 players, and with the enthusiasm of our Montreal disc golfing friends, it will sell out sooner rather than later.

This tournament is discounted in price for dues-paid members of the ODGC. You can buy 2008 or Lifetime memberships from any member of the ODGC executive. We'll have those memberships available for you at each and every Ice League event, as well as at the Ice Bowl itself.

~That is all~

We are having some technical difficulties with the registration page, so the guy who wrote the software just put up last year's sign up page as a temporary mesure.

I've now taken last year's registration page down, and it's being worked on.

In the interim, I'll put the registration for the tournament in this folder.

Please sign up in this thread, and I'll add you to the list.

Yeah, I've dropped the ball lately on getting the site updated. I'll get that up there the next chance I get.

Thanks for the verification Rolly. I know it's sort of there. I'm just anal about such things, and to tell ya the truth, I've checked twice in the last month or so for Icebowl, and both times I found the 2007 date, I just figured it was one of those "once-a-year" problems that arises on ALL Disc golf and Ultimate tournaments : A lack of updating the site, so I just clicked off of it. But THIS time when I checked it today, I had the same problem, EXCEPT I thought, "Man, it's almost February, it's GOTTA be somewhere in here(the site). So after a few clicks I found it. It's just that I'm not on this site that often, and as I've found on ANY site that is frequented by it's users on a regular basis, they(the regulars) all assume that everyone knows about everything by word-of-mouth because they're in a small tight-knit group. But when someone like myself "glances in" once in awhile to peruse what's happenin' in O-town, it must be presumed by the co-ordinators of events such as Icebowl, that nobody knows ANYTHING(like me), and they should try to give us as much info as possible, and as easily as possible too. It will also increase visibility of the event, as well as participation, I would guess. But that's just me being anal, that's all. I'm a details oriented type o' guy, ya know? So no worries man, we'll clink our beer bottles together if and when we ever meet, alright? I'm still undecided whether I can make it there that weekend, but I'm tryin'.

Later dude,

Discgo Deano

P.S. Just before hittin' "submit", I noticed Julz's post, so I'm glad I put my 2 cents in. Keep up the good work Julz. You too Rolly big grin

Yes, Ice League will once again be held out at the Flat Mountain course in Mountain, ON.

We'll be playing 19 holes on OMR's course, along with a few rounds of Ice League.

This will be the 2nd last Ice League event of the season, and next week will see us return to JCP for a return to the SYN City format that was so popular last year.

Regular start times for both events:

Ice Putt at 11:30
Ice League starts between 12 noon and 12:15.

Any questions, or if you need a ride, please give me a call at 613.286.5233.

League stats will be posted by the end of the day.

Winter Parking is going to be tight... park across the street from the holes on the north side, as the two parking lots are closed during the off-season.

Unique "Mulligan Cards" will be available for sale in limited quantities (maximum of 6 per person). They run at $2 each or 3 for $5.

Players can also play at the "Ice Putt" course for $2/round or 3 rounds for $5. You can play up to 6 times. The top score gets half the $, while the other half goes to the charity. In a twist incentive for this year, the top-7 scores at the Ice Putt on Saturday will be awarded bonus Ice Bucks.

You can play your Ice Putt rounds either before, in between, or after your Ice Bowl rounds.

An even higher amount of Ice Bucks are awarded to the top-7 on the final standings of the Ice League and Ice Putt rankings.

I'm looking for some volunteers to help with registration, and a couple of others to run the Ice Putt.

Contact me directly by e-mail at don.lane -AT- rogers.com, or on my cell at 613.286.5233

Thanks everyone - and don't forget to bring your non-perishable food to the Ice Bowl!!! The more you give, the more Ice Bucks you'll get!
