We had an early start this season at Flat Mountain last weekend, but the main part of Ice League Season will get going on Saturday Nov. 11th, and every Saturday after until Ice Bowl in early February.

We'll announce a date for this year's Ice Bowl soon, as we don't want to conflict with either the Super Bowl or the South River Ice Bowl which some of us bundle up for. Dusan - please contact us with your Ice Bowl date.

When: Saturdays.

Time: Noon.

Where: Different courses and different layouts, never the same one twice.

Cost: $6 for the first week, then after it'll depend on your Ice Bowl Registration. After that the weekly league fee will be $8 or a discounted $6 for those who have pre-registered for the Ice Bowl.

Format: We'll play doubles best-disc style. Doubles teams will be pre-selected at random between two sets of players, the "advanced" and the "intermediates". If you win with one partner, say goodbye to them for the year, as you won't be paired together again.

BBP will announce the layout of this week's format at JCP within the next few days.

For the points and the money you'll be ranked in teams against everyone, so the teammates get identical points regardless of whether they play "intermediate" or "advanced".

The goals of Ice League are to have fun in the freakin' cold, as well as stay in shape and in form for next summer, and to add to the value of our donation to the Ice Bowl's charity, the Ottawa Food Bank.

Once again this year, we'll be involved in the country-wide "Great Canadian Ice Bowl Challenge" which we have won two years straight, and the other TDs are gunning for us this year with new ideas on raising money and food, so we'll have to work extra hard as a club to keep up our standing against other Canadian disc golf clubs who want to take our title.

For our 6th annual Ice Bowl, your top-6 results will count this year on the Ice League ranking, which goes from now until early February.

Up to 3 Mulligans can be purchased each week during regular Ice League events, and the notorious SYN (Screw Your Neighbour) Cards are back with a vengeance at a reduced price:

Mulligan Cards - $2/each or 3/$5
SYN Cards - $3/each or 4/$10

Any one person can only SYN one person per Ice League event. Similarly, any one person can only be SYNned upon once per Ice League event. SYN Cards must be used during Ice League, as they aren't a part of the Ice Bowl. If you don't use all your weekly Mulligans or SYN cards, you can store them for use in a future Ice League Event.

Weekly CTP winners will earn $20 Ice Bucks and something like an "Innocence Card" or a "Confessional Card" (we're still working on a name for them). These cards can negate a SYN card that is tossed at you.

Ice Bucks that you've earned during the season will be given to you at the registration desk at our Ice Bowl. Ice Bucks are the only thing that can be used to purchase our awesome prizes at the Ice Auction.

We also have a weekly Ice Putt event, which gets set up weekly at Hole #4 starting at 11:30. You can play up to 3 times weekly, either before or after Ice League for $2/round (or 3 rounds for $5). Weekly winners get half the pot and 10 Ice Bucks. There is a ranking for this as well, and the top-6 on it will get awarded more Ice Bucks at the end of the season.

We'll announce more things later, as this post is long enough.

The Ice Bowl cometh!

Is that a poodle in a dog sweater? What the hell.

I pick the North Side Triple 9.

Played in the order of; Blue - Yellow - Red.

I mean, a poodle in a dog sweater...from a Yeti to a poodle in a sweater. What's going on with this world?

That frozen poodle is just above the "No Wimps, No Whiners" part of the logo, so I think what it implies is that wimpy whiny dogs need not show up.

We're lookin' for hard-core types. No wimps. No whiners. No poodles!

Maybe we should rename the Ice League to the
Water League for this week. Sad
It ain't gonna stop me from going though.
I'll be there bright and early!

Hi guys!
I am new to this forum.
My name is Marc-Andre Breau and i play disc golf.
Some people maybe know me are maybe already seen me on the course.
Anyways, I want to join the ice league this year, if I can I will be there Sathurday at noon.
I wanted to join the league this summer but I wasnt able to join so I thing this ice league should be a good opportunity for me to make some friend and have some fun.

I hope we will get to meet soon!

Marc-Andre

Marc-Andre, welcome to the forum and to the Ottawa Disc Golf Club.

Anyone that would even consider playing disc golf in the winter should totally get involved in the ODGC Ice League. Organizers Geoff Penton and Don Lane do an awesome job, and you'll learn in a hurry what you need to do to stay comfortable and play disc golf all year long. Welcome to disc golf as it was meant to be played! Bring a big umbrella, a couple of dish towels to dry your discs, and whatever else you would wear to stay warm and dry on Saturday. Whatever you do, don't let the weather put you off!

Cheers!
-Paul

I met with Rolly last night, and we randomly determined the teams from the preliminary Ice League event at Fright Flight Flat Mountain last Saturday.

We used the "Carl's Mystery Craps" method to randomly determine which holes came from the "Advanced" player and which holes came from the "Intermediate" player. 10 holes were drawn for the Advanced partner, with the remaining 9 holes coming from their Intermediate player.

Advanced players used the following holes: #2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17, &19

Intermediates scored results from #1, 6, 7, 8, 89, 10, 12, 16, & 18

1. Geoff Penton & Ben Svetkoff (30 + 33) = 63
2. Carl Visser & Jeff Meldrum (32 + 32) = 64
3= Marc Rancourt & Rod Nicholls (30 + 36) = 66
3= Rob Wormald & Dawn Pengelly (30 + 36) = 66
5= Mike McCormick & John Pytel (34 + 33) = 67
5= Jeff Larivière & Paul Bourgeois (35 + 32) = 67
7. Arthur Pengelly & Stacie Sivyer (32 + 36) = 68
8. Dusan Nedelko & Kelly Reitlingshoefer (30 + 44) = 74
9. Claus Reitlingshoefer & Andrew Vallé (33 + 45) = 78
10. Don Lane & Nicki Hunt (35 + 51) = 86
11. Ken Darcovich & Shiela Pytel (32 + 66) = 98

As previously announced, whenever possible, winning teams will be broken up at future Ice League events, so we'll randomly draw BBP's partner first tomorrow before determining the rest of the random teams.

Those who paid for additional rounds at the Ice Putt who did not get a chance to play them at FFFM will have them carried over to their next appearance at Ice League. The Ice Putt gets set up at 11:30 at Basket #4.

See you all there - hope to see a good sized turnout![/b]

Salut M-A ! On te souhaite la bienvenue !

Nous avons déjà apprécié ton jeu quelques jeudi soirs cette saison.
C’était très prometteur, on s’attend à être ébloui en 2007.

Yah, wait. How did Bourgie and Meldrum get seperated? What happened there? Which round did you take this from? Confusion is setting in.

The two groups were formed from their scores in their first round of golf with Old Man being the last man standing in Advanced, and Phattie being at the top of the mountain in Intermediate.

That's golf!

Bourgie only played 1 round (the night round), so I counted him in with the rest of the players who all played their first rounds in the daylight.

As The Clash says, some only come out at night. wink

All scores were from a player's first round played at FFFM.

Right on, Don. A 32, and my round was sullied by darkness and that pesky Yukon Jack. Wooo Hoooo!
