Read "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" (title of a book should be underlined, but I don't know how to on the Forum).

From said book:

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda: Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

On most UBB forums, you can do it by putting a U in square brackets, followed by a /U in square brackets: underline me or just make a link Eats, Shoots, and Leaves

However, our version is four years old, and may not support certain codes...

You can take a look at the code I used (by hitting the 'edit' or 'reply buttons above) to see how it's done.

That was very funny.
This has been a good day on the forum.

I wrote that before Donald edited his post explaining how to do it.

Man, am I ever a post whore today. It seems like on yesterday I was at 590.

Ben, I think you messed up the definition at the end of your quote. Should it not say "Eats shoots and leaves". Without the comma after the word "eats". That's the whole joke.

I believe "East shoots and leaves" would be the proper way to explain that a panda eats a food called shoots and a food called leaves. By adding the commas it turns each word into a verb (the panda ate, shot and left(a comma after 'shot' in this sentence is optional but not necessary)). I copied and pasted it from a friend's site who got it from the book.

Now, now children, play nice.

I do enjoy the term "post whore".

...yah, but then it's not funny. The definition should be correct, therefore acknowledging the panda's dismal view of the human race, and their inability to follow (albeit, sometimes very complicated and confusing) punctuation rules.

...and another thing, just because someone posts it on a website, doesn't make it usuable in a defence, or proof (mind you, I guarantee that I will use a website in the next couple of weeks to prove something).

Standard, daily arguments in my class. "But that's how we spell it on MSN." Or, "But I found it on this website."

In grade 12 English, I wrote a paper and lost 50 marks (out of 100) for a missed comma splice. She, the whore of a teacher, (can't wait for my students to one day call me that) said she was preparing me for university.

I got a 95% on my first essay at the University of Waterloo. It took me until teacher's college to find out what a comma splice means. Now, I still get hammered from my "collegues" on missed commas, or inappropriate uses of a preposition.

How about right here:
Oh, the humanity! Where should I start with my red pen of shame?

or perhaps better yet,
Oh, the humanity! Where should I start with my red "pen of shame"?

I think you would include the word "red" in your quotations since it is the descriptor of the pen. The "red pen of shame" is the full name of the analogy. I don't think he really has a red pen that points out shame.
