Despite the fact that this isn't the former Soviet Republic of Kerblackistan, I just got the word from Cleave Physio that my season is over.

I will be defaulting the rest of my games due to an "irritated nerve" which will turn into "nerve damage" if I keep going.

Sorry to hold everyone up. Play on.

Seek the chains,

Sorry to hear about the injury, Chowder, but Cleave will fix you up better than before.

With this news and having heard from Wah just now, (who has to default his remaining two matches due to an impending trip overseas), we can now setup the following matches:

Round "D" Matches:
Visser vs. Wormald (winner goes to the final)

Round "E" Matches:
Thompson vs. Meldrum (winner places 5th)

FINAL RESULTS:
7th - Steve Penny (who beat Morrisey by default)
8th - Andy Morrisey

For those of you who have now finished their final match (at the moment only Wheels and Chowder) please contact me offline to see how best I can get you your winnings. I'll be out there (weather permitting) tomorrow afternoon for my match with Peter, and to meet Dean & Brother André in their final match. Feel free to drop by and play a round.

Wheels: Can I give your money to Peter?

The other matches that can be played should be posted above. Hopefully a few matches can be played this weekend if the weather cooperates.

Manning CRUSHES Leach 7/6 this morning in chilly, chilly weather after we postponed our game from yesterday.

Dean came out strong, Brother Andre...less so...

We also, unfortunately, learned that six of our baskets have been de-chained. We found the tops for three of them but the chains are gone.

Bottom line, Dean Manning 17th, Brother Andre 18th (I'm happy with that ), Vandals 6 sets of chains...

Andrew

I'm glad to hear the three basket tops we thought were missing are safe.

While playing through a more challenging then usual course Ken Lange defeats Mike Harley 2/1.

7. Steve PENNY

16. (O'Brien / Harley)

...
25. (Nicholls / Herage)
26. (Nicholls / Herage)
27. (Russell / Seabrook)
28. (Russell / Seabrook)
...

I'd also like to propose next Saturday at noon for a mass-matchplay round, which will finish it off for many players.

It will also give me a chance to hand out $ to those who have finished.

Please post in here if you can make it for the Saturday at Noon scheduled time; otherwise, reach me by e-mail to see how best I can get your winnings to you.

In a sprinkling of rain over a 17 hole vandal-shortened course, Peter McKinnon and I played our "D" round match.

I squeaked by 2/1. We didn't play the 3rd hole, since it's only a single pole sticking out of the ground. The rest of the course is playable, although with some of the chains missing, it's not ideal.

At least it's fair, since both players face the same conditions.

"D" Round Result
Peter McKinnon vs. Don Lane
Lane (2/1)

"E" Round Result
Wah Phung-Lu vs. Peter McKinnon
McKinnon (by default)

Peter places 11th, while Wah finished 12th.

"E" Round Match
Steve Ott vs Don Lane

Hey Steve - can you make it out on Saturday at noon? Even earlier than that time would be good for me since I'll be driving to Toronto at about 2:00 p.m.

NEWSFLASH

I can no longer make it to the course at noon. However, I will be there at 9:30 for my final match play round vs. Steve Ott, and I will stay at the course until about 11:45, after which I have leave in order to pickup some people at Ottawa U for a fencing trip to Toronto.

I'll have $ for all Match Play participants (except for Luc who STILL owes the $30 entry fee) on me, so if you can meet me there for a round or just to get your winnings, feel free to come out to JCP. The weather looks good for tomorrow.

What?! Someone hasn't paid you yet??? That's ultra low brow!

BTW, I'm not going to bother showing up unless the Aghajanian / Calow match has been played already.

This just in from Justin:

"Nicholas,
Sorry, I can't make it this week-end..way too much going on in renovation world and as the season comes to an end I will have to withdraw.
You win by default..good luck in your next match.

Apologies,
Justin"
-----------------

Therefore,

"D" Round Result
Aghajanian vs Calow
Aghajanian (by default)

"E" Round Match:

Haggerty vs. Aghajanian (for 29th)

Roberts vs. Calow (for the DFL Trophy)

I'll bring the DFL Trophy for all to see, although it looks like Justin won't be able to play either player in the Nick of time.

Play will continue in Match Play Series II when the basket for Hole #3 gets planted, which may be as soon as Monday.

I'll have the payouts available for those who have finished this Series at the course work session on Saturday (which starts at 10:00). If you want to donate it towards either your annual membership or your lifetime membership, I can put it aside to give to the ODGC President.

For an update, copy this URL and paste it in to your browser, since it seems to work better that way:
http://www.geocities.com/ottawadiscgolf/mps2-tableau.xls

The $160 Ace Pool has yet to be claimed, which is why you should wait until the aceable 3rd hole gets planted before playing a round. If nobody gets an ace during the remaining few matches, the entire pot goes to the club.

Please let me know when your upcoming games are scheduled, and I'll try to make it out there with either your money or the DFL Trophy which Brother André nearly stole from me.

I'll take Ken and Tom's Ace Theory one step further, and state that since MPS II started last year, the final phase of it should require a shot to be made from tee pads that are the equivalent or more difficult to tee placements which existed last year.

Thus while you can use whichever official tee you would like on any given hole, the $160 to be earned from the Ace Pool must be earned from Blue or Yellow tee pads.

Similarly, Aces earned on new hole 13B, which has no official tee pad, nor was fully operational last year, will not count towards this prize.

~Don~

P.S. Hey Nick - when are ya gonna play that DFL match?

MPS-II Participants,

Hi everyone.  I'd like to get this overdue tournament wrapped up within the next three weeks.  I'm thus going to introduce a deadline that I trust will be acceptable given the amount of time that has passed since this Match Play series started.

Please have all your matches played and submitted to me by MONDAY, AUGUST 12th.  If I havn't received your results by the end of that day, I'll just give your opponents a default win wherever possible, or award an average amount of $ to those remaining if both opponents remain unresolved, and then
get the averaged winnings out to you at the Canadian Disc Golf Championships, which will be held at our course on the following weekend (Aug. 17-1Cool.

Here are the matches which should be played AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:

Round "D" Matches

Rob Wormald vs. Carl Visser (winner goes to Final, loser to 3rd place match)
Simon Kaegi vs. Steve Selkirk (winner goes to Final, loser to 3rd place
match)
Joel McEwen vs. Mike McCormick (winner plays Derek Manning for 21st)

Round "E" Matches

Jeff Meldrum vs. Gavin Thompson (for 5th place)
Mike Seaby vs. Ken Lange (for 13th place)
Tom O'Brien vs. Mike Harley (for 15th place)
Jamie Russell vs. Steve Seabrook (for 27th place)
Nick Roberts vs. Justin Calow (for 31st place & the DFL Trophy)

Please let me know when you are scheduling your "E" round matches, and I will try my best to be there to give you your tournament winnings.  If you want to donate your winnings to the Ottawa Disc Golf Club (towards either a lifetime membership or an annual membership) please let me know, and I will forward the money to the club president on your behalf.

Many thanks to the following golfers who have finished all of their Match Play Series games:

7th - Steve Penny
8th - Andy Morrisey *
9th - Don Lane
10th - Steve Ott
11th - Peter McKinnon
12th - Wah Phung Lu
17th - Dean Manning **
18th - Andrew Leach *
19th - Kevin Grignon
20th - John Kean *
25th - Rod Nicholls
26th - Greg Herage
29th - Kevin Haggerty
30th - Nick Aghajanian

I owe Wah $30.  I believe that everyone else on the above list of players who have finished the tournament have already been paid or have donated their winnings to the club.  If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

* Donated their MPS-II winnings to the club
** Outright donation (already a member)

The $160 Ace-Pool has yet to be won.  It is still available to be won at any of the Blue or Yellow Tees except 13b), which wasn't there last year when this tournament started.  If it is unclaimed by the closing date of the tournament, 100% of it will go to the ODGC, which can definitely use the
funds.

If you have any questions, just let me know by e-mail or call me at home at 744-6262.

Disc Golf is for life.  Life is a Nike ad.  Just do it !
