There will be a new division at the Plaid this year: Open Advanced and Open Novice

Feel a little overwhelmed golfing with the veterans? can't drive all the way to the pin on #11? Well now there is a new division for our newest recruits to the sport. When registering for the Plaid please state your preference.

----------------

2001 Plaid Jacket Open
Saturday, September 29, 2001
Jacques Cartier Park Disc Golf Course
Registration closes at 9:30 a.m.
The most anticipated disc event in Ottawa is coming up again and everyone is cordially invited to attend the annual Plaid Jacket Open. This year the event will take place at Jacques Cartier Park on our permanent 18 hole course. Two rounds for the open (advanced and novice) division, two rounds for the women’s division and one round for the ultrastar division. The second round will use alternative tees.

Over 80 discs will be given away! This year there are prizes for the putting contest and a mass Closest to the Pin competition.

There will be water stations set-up around the course, along with the group lunch.

The format for the tournament is a shotgun start so please don't be late.

Cost: $30/person

Date: Saturday, September 29, 2001

Time: Registration closes at 9:30 a.m., tee off is at 10:00 a.m.

Place: Jacques Cartier Park (North)

Players Central will be located near the Maison de Velo.

As per our tradition, the winner of the Open (advanced) and Women's division will receive the highly-coveted Plaid Jacket and your names will proudly be displayed on the trophy.

There will be four divisions this year: Open, Women's, Junior, and Ultrastar.

The Ultrastar Division: Many out there look at the Disc Golf crowd and say..."What a bunch of freaks! They have all these different golf discs and they don't put any on their wall at home!" Well it's time to put your putter away for your trusty 175 gram Ultrastar ultimate disc. The ONLY disc allowed in this division is the Ultrastar.

To register please contact Steve Seabrook, sseabrook@sympatico.ca or Tel: 260-8442

How do you know if you should be in "Open Advanced" or "Open Novice"?

This is really a judgement call by each person. If you have started playing over the past year then Novice is probably for you. There are also quite a few who have played infrequently over the past and don't have the experience/skill of others, they might want to compete in Novice.

As a rough guide, if your personal best is even or higher you may want to play in the novice division.

Scott Shailler who started last year and now has a -3 personal best will be asked to play in the Advanced division; whereas Rod Nichols who has played for years and his PB is above even might play in the Novice.

I want to see the DFL Division where a certain number of people duke it out for worst throw, best tree placement and furthest distance in the water.

p.s. who's in the women's division at the moment (besides me?)
