I got out and played camp fortune. It's been a while. But it was in great shape.

I gotta say though, #18 is very disappointing end to an awesome course. For me, I think it's all the unnatural obstacles off the tee that just doesn't fit with the vibe of the course.

Thoughts?

I agree. But it is, what it is.

Maybe take it as a moment of reality. To remember the last 17 holes that hid you from building landscapes. To appreciate what you just experienced.

And then run the basket from the shorts.

Last night was the first time I had seen the new fence. Interesting.

It is not a pretty sight, but it doesn't make it a bad hole. One could argue that it improves the throw, as a "S" shot is now needed (a shot that I don't use on the MNT)

I looked around for a better tee pad that wouldn't involve the structure (and have a climb), but there is slim pickings.

I agree .. Last year they took away that wood railing , and it wasn't that bad.

It is slim pickings for an alternate short pad...The other option that Meldrum and I talked about was to move the shorts further down to the left of the pad towards the gravel road ... it takes the carpet-thingy out of the way , but has a negative effect on the lovely green.

If you're out for a casual round , play a different short pad and give feedback.

It's quite wet down around the bottom, and, like you mentioned, it doesn't make it any more attractive.

The basket has been moved closer to the creek, which sort of helps too.

I come to conclusion that we are playing on a ski hill. There are parts of the ski hill that are obstacles (obstacles we didn't have to construct). It's par for the course. I wouldn't do anything about 18 except figure out how to play it.

In the spring when the ground was wet I was shot a few times from a dry island down on the road. It is blind to the basket and you have to hyzer in at the right spot. It was a good shot to make, not too easy, not too hard; streamline walk from hole 17.

Last night we had 2 out of 3 birdies on our card from the current pad, which I think will hold up as quite remarkable in the long term. Both birds were ‘good drive/good putt’ for two’s. I think it is a good golf hole as it is, even if it is not aesthetically ideal.

I think we might need to think outside the box on this one... i.e. eliminating the current 18 altogether. There's a few places we could inject a new hole.

Anyways, I'm not suggesting we act on this right away, just food for thought. In my mind, 18 sticks out like a sore thumb.

As soon as you eliminate #18 and "inject" a new hole, you have to re-number the course, which will involve new tee signs and a new map. (and while it seems easy to inject a new hole, a lot of thought was put into where the course starts and ends, as well as where discs land and what can be mowed and cleaned every year)

It will also remove the basket we practice on while waiting for the show to start. And its the only basket non-DGers really take notice of.

If this is an expense and time willing to be taken on then it can be done.

I agree with Colin. I don't play often anymore, but when I do, I skip 18.

Recently I played it a few times from the grass beside the chairlift. The trees surrounding the telephone pole create some challenge. Everything to the left of road can be ob, which takes the wet out. The new pin is also cool.
