The Ottawa Disc Golf Club will be participating in the Tim Hortons Cleaning the Capital, on Sunday April 26th, by cleaning up our disc golf course and ADOPTED PARK, Beaverbrook Park, Kanata.

Come out and demonstrate community pride by cleaning up our fairways, rough, and woods, “while enjoying the outdoors and ensuring that Ottawa stays clean, green, graffiti and litter-free.” (Cleaning the Capital)

We will have garbage and yard waste bags, and rakes. Bring your own pair of gloves.

We'll start up at 9 and go until Beaverbrook Park is shiny clean.

From the City of Ottawa Cleaning the Capital FAQs:

Are there some basic safety tips we should follow?

You should do everything you can to ensure that you and your project team are safe during your clean up project. Some basic safety rules include:
•Supervise children in their cleanup efforts and emphasize that safety comes first.
•Wear gloves and appropriate footwear.
•Wear pants and long-sleeved shirts.
•Read and follow safety instructions on graffiti removal products
•If cleaning near a roadway, wear a safety vest and clean only the non-travelled portion of a roadway.
•Be aware of your surroundings and the potential hazards (i.e. poison ivy, streams and branches) and remember to put on protective eyewear as necessary.
•Have a hand washing station available for volunteers.
•Do not lift heavy objects.
•Never touch a needle with your hands. Call 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401) for disposal information and assistance.
•Wear gloves to pick up cigarette butts. You can also use a broom and dustpan or a rake to clean them up.
•Children must never touch items like glass, broken wood, metal, needles, or household hazardous waste. It’s a good idea to double up your garbage bags for transporting these items.

Why should I participate?

There are many reasons to participate during Cleaning the Capital. Here are our top reasons!

1.It’s good for the environment!
2.Your community becomes a cleaner and safer place for your family, friends, neighbours and residents of all ages.
3.It’s a great way to exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
4.It’s a great way to connect with neighbours and give back to your community.
5.It sets a good example for all generations.
6.It’s a great way for businesses to show how much they care about our community.
and
7. It's our adopted disc golf park.

My daughter and I will be out on Sunday cleaning up the course and surrounding area. I have latex gloves and garbage bags. Bringing your own work gloves is always a bonus.

Big thanks to Adrian, Gunner, Mike, Carl, Cameron, Jillian, Max, Emma and Molly!

Park is looking great. The fall clean-up (thanks Kin) in combination with our spring tidy are really making a difference out there. Keep it up Ottawa disc golfers!

Some interesting notes from our tour:

- a lot of cigarette butts around the the rocks at the ninth green
- we found TWO pairs of women's underwear
- Roxie found half a coconut!

And 4 golfers where on the course that I've never seen before (two where a mother and teenage son).

Anyone have their kid there and have that child leave behind a grey and orange roots jacket? I found one by the rocks at hole nine. The course looks great! Thanks for your hard work.

That would be my son's Jamie. I assumed you picked it up. I went back for it later and it was gone.

Cleaned the Capital at our school yesterday. We found over 300 cigarette butts. Smoking is f#cking gross.
