Today as he stepped out of his tangerine flavoured car, he felt an emptiness.

Dros' most cherished possession was his 175g Avery Jenkins S/DS Star Destroyer. A close second was a very pulchritudinous P2. Some throws the Psycho was a distant DFL. After those moments Dros was getting better at extinguishing those irrational musings and thankfully, more intoxicating thoughts returned. On this day. In the parking lot. The vacuum in his soul remained.

They were both in his bag. That was always a guarantee. He could close his eyes and tell who their bag neighbour was; a well loved 172g Star Firebird and a Meteor that did what it was told. Today though, he didn't have his bag with him. He had left it at home. He meant to. He wasn't throwing discs this cold fall evening.

It was the Tyrant's responsibility to make sure all Ottawa golfers had the chance to throw their beloved implements the way they were designed for. The Tyrant Andrew "Andros" Vallee was the Tournament Director and Happy Place Provider for the 2014 Plaid Jacket. And this was his first walk through of The Canadian.

Master Disc Golf Course Designers, Rock Star Disc Golfers, and really, all around great guys, Ben-e and a Jeff were already shivering on the first tee (well Penton was) when the spray-tan-gone-wrong hatchback pulled into the parking lot. All three were expecting a quick tour through the Plaid layout and be home to catch the Biggest Loser: Glory Days.

Shame on them.

From the elevated tee at hole 1, everything looked unchanged.

And from 1-3, nothing seemed to have been done to the WB course, though it does look like they are starting to understand DG more as the gap on 2 is HUGE! and wonderful.

It was on 3 that the striking threesome started to notice the biggest change to the terrain: a golf cart highway.

There was now a 400-esque cart path that weaved its way around the 9 hole East Course. In some instances, the cart path improved things, like the teepad for #4 became dreamy flat and gorgeous. But on hole 5, it meandered its way onto the once beautiful pond-side green. So they made a change.

The teepad remained the same.

The green was moved to the Super1 green of 2013 (and 2014).

The Canadian G&C maintenance crew, under the Tyrant's supervision, trimmed and pruned the trees lining the fairway and the green. The "gap" became more manageable and the newly found room underneath the green side trees certainly made this a very cool hole. And if the wind was going to be anything like it was on Thursday, look out.

6-8 remained the same, except for Cart Highway 420 making it very enticing to make it a river OB, but that would have been silly; and why have silly, when you already have pretty.

Holes 9-11 are unchanged.

Hole 12 required a slight adjustment from above, as the new Highway 420 ran right down the tree valley where the 2013 teepad used to be.

The fabulous three didn't want to be all Edgar Degas and mix the pad materials on everyone, so they found some lovely grass just to the side of 420. The twelfth hole would now play 24' shorter for the Yellow pad (266') and a tad straighter.

13 would remain as spectacular as you remember it.

Hole 14 is now a par 4. Same green. New elevated teepads. And some great air bunkers.

This is a great hole for a white ball course. The pine tree air bunker is 360' from the yellow tee and 290' from the blue tee. Perfect.

The pine tree squeezes the fairway and brings the pond into play for the agressive players. But there is a safe route to the left of the air-bunker-tree, but the up shot will make you think.

Other good things about the move;
- better teepad - we're using the white ball pad and we're not on the bump, which is the only decent area of ground for a pond side tee.
- better set of throws - the drive has to do something more than just be a disc golf throw, the up-shot will be fun and we still use a nice hill side green
- better flow - we come down the path from 13 and the WB pads are right there. No more crossing the grass to get the pond; we'll throw there.

I think this is a better golf hole and a better throwing hole. We'll find out on Plaid Sunday.

Oh. The pond is back in all it's water glory.

Because of an early jet last year, the scorecards were never collected to find out the hole stats, so the dreamy 3 didn't know how this hole played out. So let's try it again. Everyone play their best and we'll see about changing it in 2015.

Always trying to keep things SUPER exciting, The Tyrant and his crew of handsome men also worked on tweaking the Re/Max Super 6 so it would be more exciting to throw, and more important, more exciting to watch.

S2 gets shorter and brings the OB-WB green more into play off the drive. The basket (#8 ) is 320 from the tee, making it a really competitive hole for the top 4. Lots of things to think about standing at the tee.

S5 gets an entire facelift.

We, (and I mean Ben) will move the basket on 15 to the top of the mound and set up the tee 220' feet away.

The dream would have the second place golfer ACE the S5 hole and tie it up coming into the last hole. But if he/she misses the basket? There's an OB concrete path nor far behind.

S6 is still the killer finisher.

So much for walking the course 10 before. Ho. Ly To. Le. Do.

A giant bush pile has shown up on 2 (essentially forcing us to have a drop zone for landing 30 feet from the pin).

And we lost hole 16. They've severed the hole in half and brought in a excavator to completely annihilate our green and their 9th hole tee pad. So we made the changes for a new hole 16 and different Super 6 finishing hole. The good thing is, next year's 16 will have a BIGGER pond, that comes into play on the WB #9.

Sigh.

The black flies are horrible.
