Would like to play.

Need a ride, work east end, home near Bank and Sunnyside.

Don't think it's the best idea for me to cycle the week before the Pelican...

WITH THE IMPENDING WEATHER DOOM THAT IS EXPECTED, THIS EVENT MAY BE TERMINATED EARLY.

A strong line of thunderstorms is expected to pass over the Kanata DGC starting at 4ish pm, and to be in effect for the duration of the round. If the TD determines that the round should be terminated, he will ensure that all cards are made aware as soon as possible.

Remember the 30/30 rule. If you cannot count to thirty between a lightning flash and the associated thunder, take cover (in your car is going to be the best bet tonight). Stay under cover until 30 minutes past the last audible thunder. (We likely won't have to wait that long, as the round will probably be cancelled.)

If the TD suspends play due to lightning, mark your disc with an object you can leave behind, or leave your disc behind, and find shelter.

Do not count on the TD to cancel the round. If you feel that, in discussion with your card, you are inside the 30/30 window, cease play immediately and find shelter. If your card disagrees with you, and wants to continue play, you may feel free to abandon the card, and seek shelter. Should this occur, you will be granted the opportunity (if time permits and the storm passes) to complete the round without penalty.

Your own personal safety should be the only consideration you have this evening. Please be careful out there.

The areas marked in red on this map show likely lightning strike areas as of 2:50pm. Note the line running from Ajax to Georgian Bay. That line is headed directly for us.

From Environment Canada:

Quote:
2:02 PM EDT Tuesday 08 July 2014
Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

Ottawa North - Kanata - Orleans
Ottawa South - Richmond - Metcalfe
Severe thunderstorm conditions possible - afternoon to evening.

Thunderstorms are expected to affect much of southern Ontario this afternoon and early evening ahead of an approaching cold front. Some of these thunderstorms have the potential to become severe with torrential rainfall, damaging winds and large hail.

Very heavy rainfall is accompanying these thunderstorms and some areas may locally see up to 50 millimetres of rain. The threat of damaging winds and large hail will be greatest over eastern Ontario.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required, so stay tuned to your local media or Weatheradio. Email reports of severe weather to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet with the hashtag #ONStorm.
