Farmland, and lots of it! This week, we're back at Ettyville, with
TOSS 2013 [5] / QB Challenge 2.2
May 28th
at Ettyville SuperSpin (Mids).
All disc golfers are welcome!
Tournament Central is near the barn, and
The round starts at 6:00.
BE AT THE COURSE BY 5:50 PM TO REGISTER!
Fees are $5
Exact change appreciated.
Green Fees are $5
This week's TD: Mark Atos

Details about TOSS 2012 [5]:
TOSS is operating an Ace Pool as a fundraiser for the Capital Classic 2012. $2.00 gets you in the pool, with $1.00 from each entry going to the Capital Classic. Ace pools not won carry over to the following week's TOSS event. See Mark Atos for more details.
  • Directions to the Ettyville Super Spin Disc Golf Course are here: Directions

Out of bounds:

There are six considerations for O/B tonight.

1. Hole 18: The ditch in front of the green. If your disc comes to rest inside the long grass that defines the ditch, you are O/B.

2. Hole 18: In or over the long grass schnarb on the right side of the fairway and green.*

3. Hole 5: The long grass that divides hole 5 fairway from hole 7 fairway, and anything left of the grass is OB.

4. Hole 7: The long grass that divides hole 5 fairway from hole 7 fairway, and anything left of the grass is OB.

5. Hole 5/6: The pond is OB.

Follow the PDGA rules for O/B in cases 1 through 4.

6. Crop OB: See my post further down page 1 of this thread.

No other O/B exists tonight.

* Long throws into the field beyond the green are NOT out of bounds.

Crop OB:

No player shall play a disc that comes to rest in crop areas. Granted, the crops are not up, but John and I are concerned for the well-being of his crops, so the following will apply:

1. If a disc comes to rest in a "crop area", the player's subsequent throw shall be played from where the disc entered the crop area. No penalty stroke shall be assigned. Example: Mark Atos griplocks his drive on 2, and puts it 150' into the crops, pin-high of the entrance to the green. His drive crossed the crop line 50' forward of the teepad. Mark will play his second shot from the edge of the crops, 50' forward of the teepad.

2. For discs that are close to the crop line, the players on the card shall use their best judgement to determine if the disc is "in the crop area" or "on the fairway". Please keep in mind that we're trying to minimize the damage to John's fields.

Rules 1 and 2 above apply for ALL crops at Ettyville Superspin DGC for TOSS 5.

so there is no OB for being in the crops?

I can see not wanting people to play out the field, but no penalty at all?

The difficulty is in determining an OB line. The crop is not up to determine an OB line. I think playing from the point of entry into the crops is penalty enough. It'd be a distance penalty at least. Usually a significant one.

I'd like to share some of the thinking here. With In-In the crop OB or not is not a big deal. Shorts and mids so we played it the way we did last week.

On Wednesday we had a rain storm like TOSS last year. It rained Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday major out here. The fields are like soup and freshly planted. The won't be great to play in or shoot out of. This is why I didn't want to penalize people without an OB line.

The other major reason is if there is NO OB on #1,2,3,4,8,10,17 there can be advantage to play in the crops for short cuts and schnarb avoidance. I didn't want people playing deliberately out of the crops and making a mess of things.

Mark as TD can make the final call. I just felt less chance for tension or ruling issues when a penalty stroke was in play and no ob line.

As John noted above, with no clearly defined OB line, it wouldn't be fair to penalize someone who's borderline "in the crops". Therefore, if you are "in the crops" tonight's rule is play it where it went "out", with no penalty stroke.

The way the course plays vs. the crops, I can't think of a single hole where this rule can result in an advantage.

Also, please note that the grassline between 5 and 7 is also OB tonight. I'm updating the first post as soon as I'm done this one.
