Care to share your rationale for including the two meter rule ?

I can speak to that.

The rationale is:
keep your discs out of the trees. They're hazards, not inconveniences.

We have played the 2m rule every TOSS event we've been there, and if it was ever not played on a Tuesday, it was a mistake.

I never thought I would see the day that Paul was defending the dumbest rule in DG. You already lost D because you hit the tree. Now based on complete randomness, you may be assigned a penalty.

Its the arbitrary nature of the 2 meter rule I dislike. I was glad the PDGA made it optional and it should be eliminated completely IMO

Aw well, regardless of our feelings on the merits of the rule itself, it is, in fact, in effect.

This is far from even being a poor rule, IMHO. It belongs wherever the course is sparse, flat, and crowded. Kanata and the Shire fit that bill to a tee. Further, it's only a random penalty if you fail at what you should be doing, and that's staying out of the trees. Trees aren't your end boards or your neutral course obstacles when the 2m rule is in effect. Treat them with the respect you need to if you want to avoid the chance of a penalty. You may very will win because someone didn't do the same.

I like the rule personally. I think it should be the zero meter rule. If you can't establish a lie on the ground then you're penalized. I find the 2 meters to be the funny part.

I still think it is very arbitrary in if it gets applied and for that reason dislike it. Two players choose a shot that puts them at risk. One guy plinkos in and finally hits the ground. The other plinkos in and gets hung up 2. 2 meters off the ground and receives a penalty. Silly.

We will have to disagree on this one Paul

Can't wait to play tonight

Yeah, it's always the people with feelings about the merits of the 2m rule that complain whenever it is used. Those feelings are founded when with rule is applied without rational and judicious consideration for its implications. I acquiesce that sound reasoning is not always applied by TDs when considering the use of the 2m rule. However, at this course, and in Kanata, it is used during TOSS, and that decision is not random, and I don't feel its irrational.

Don't hit the trees. They're the same hazard that everyone else has to deal with. Keep hitting them, and you'll eventually get burned.

I'm not complaining about its application Paul. I am questioning the logic of the rule in general

In other words, I am a bit bored and itching to get out and like discussing rules

Feelings.....lol....that was funny....

Yeah, it's as arbitrary as the 10m putting rule. We're just playing with the deck of cards we've been given, though.

Pre-Registration is now CLOSED.

If your name is not on the list on page 1 of this thread, you MUST be at the course AND REGISTERED by 6:00pm, or you do not get to play.

We will be teeing off at exactly 6:15pm. Cards will be handed out at 6:09pm according to my cell phone. You will have six minutes to get from the barn to your starting hole.

We will play long-short tonight.

Thank you everyone that gave me lots of feedback on the 2m rule at the Shire. I'm not sure why it took so many seasons for this to become an issue.

Thanks, Rob, for your hospitality, and for bringing Jordan out for a stroll!

And thank you to every one that chipped a little something in for Rob and Kara. We scratched up $450 towards one of them Chariots. Well done!

Bahaha. It is an issue in at least 1 out of 5 Shire nights. Usually leading to raised voices, then leading to Cyle and Twirly hugging it out.
