Its almost the most wonderful time of year(Spring), so its time for OMPL registration...
There will be some changes, details to come, I'm off to get the updated trophy from the store.

Changes:

Divisions will be made up of 8 players. Div 1: 8 players, Div 2: 8 players, and so on. There will be promotion/relegation between divisions after each year. The league will not be 16 people as it has been before.

A win is 2 pts not 3.

There is a change with the fee break down. 40$ for all (50$ if you pay after or on Sept 1). Of the 40$ -- 5$ will go to the ODGC, 5$ will go to payout to a new match play event I hope to bring to Ottawa area (details to come), and 30$ will go to the payouts in the OMPL. Last year the 10$ was split between ODGC, Ettyville, and the the Shire.

and last but not least, accounting from last year, Atos you still owe 50$

PM me or reply here to register

OK, great to see the #'s, some new faces, old faces, and new old faces

So, going from a league of 16, and a division 2 with 3 in it to leagues of 8, I have the wonderful, fun task of dividing us into groups of 8 based on skill level. Sure to stir up some controversy, complaints etc, dont worry odgc, I wont rage quit on you wink.

I have gotten some questions why switch to div's of 8?

1. More competitive schedule for all. A league of 16 is to large with the variance of skill we have. There is to many matches to be played that have a forgone conclusion. splitting the div's will give more competitive matches to most.

2. smaller playoff brackets in Sept. This takes out 1 round of playoffs (that are usually forgone conclusions) in a time of year there is an abundance of DG.

3. Im trying to get other match play leagues started up at other clubs in Ontario, and bring a match play tournament here to Ottawa where results of local league play will influence ones schedule in the tournament. 5$ from every head I can get to play in Ontario will go to the payout at the yearly tournament. But one thing at a time. Also looking to expand into that other province this year..you know that other province...Que Razz

Rolly: Dead simple how to divide the divisions. Do it by handicap.

True, that's what I plan on doing. Its going to be an index of a few good stats we have here that get generated for us. More info to come..
The catch is returning players should have the opportunity to defend there place in the league and not get pushed down by a new entrant. The new entrant needs to earn the place in Div 1,2 etc, not just be given it, and the returning player needs an opportunity to defend their place, and not just have it taken away. For example, Darco obviously good enough to be in Div1, should he be in Div1 and a returning player who would have been in Div 1 lose their spot in Div1 and be in Div 2? Or should the returning players get a chance to keep there spot, and have a chance to defend?
If I rank 1-8 by HC, those in places 6,7,8 are all so close in skill that the person in 8th might not deserve to be bumped down. Also HC is based on history, not the now, the person in 8th might be playing at a level that puts them mid table in 4th-6th because of improvement over the winter.
There is not a right answer. Its tough.

I have thought about this for a few weeks now, and I think the best way to do this is this:

The strongest 8 (based on the index I will make) returning players from last year will be who makes up Div 1.
The remaining players not in div 1 will be ranked by the index. players ranked 9th to 16th will make up div 2. Players ranked 17th to 24th Div 3 and so on.
