I welcome peoples thoughts on any temporary holes or configuration they see that might be fun.

How about 1,2,3 deadwalk to 10, 14,15,16,17 and 18.

Nice. I was thinking.

1,2,3
Modified 4 (current winter placement)
Cut back to 9 tee in the bush.
Add a hole between 9 and 10 like we did for ice league
Play the back nine as is.

That would make 15 holes I think. 3 short of an 18.

We migh be able to squeeze something in the bush between 9 and 10 and that would make 16.

We could make a couple of more temp holes around 16 in or the motocross track in general.

Light bulb.

What about a basket at 17 longs? Set a tee up somewhere west of 16 basket. Be a slight down hill anhyzer with crops OB long and the trees/road guarding the right.

What about a hole right after 18. A tunnel/narrow shot up along where people camp for OD. Crops OB right. Trees on the left.

Food for thought.

I was just thinking that If a quick 18 is desired then it might be faster
to do 18 from the short tees than 2 loops of a select 9 holes.

Thoughts?

My first thought is that it would shorten the throws but not the walk of the course necessarily.

We've also a bit of a bonus that the OB/Crops won't be grown in as much that time of the year. Less time looking for discs.

Something to try when the snow melts I guess.

I'd be interested in seeing the differences in terms of time between the two.

There's also some potential wet spots on 5,6,7,8 that time of the year that I don't mind cutting off just to be safe.

My honest preference would be to play the course as is and to not have any temporary holes. What makes playing the Ottawa courses is building familiarity with the layout. Having things changed up for the sake of it just drags out rounds and less enjoyable. I'd prefer to play 1-18 through.

Look forward to coming back to Ettyville John!

I think his reasoning is to make sure we get the rounds in. Someone is always finishing in the dark or not finishing at all.

Paul's initial idea was to just play #10 -18 x2 (in-in). Nothing about the course would be different just the quickest 9 holes twice.

I really enjoyed the Ice League layout we played at Ettyville. Sure, that was a loooooooooong round, but we were genuinely gaggling that one.

I liked it too, but what works for IL won't necessarily work for TOSS
We're looking at between 2hr15min and 2hr30min of daylight on the first event at Ettyville. (May 24th)

I think playing the shorter back nine twice (In-In) is in fact the way to go
as it gives the best chance to finish within daylight hours.

For the record: Andros: your daylight times are accurate enough to demonstrate the issue with playing the full 18: it's not reasonable to expect everyone to finish on time.

Re: Layout: Yeah, the comment to John was: we can play ettyville earlier and later in the season if there's a faster layout to play. Something like 10-18 twice. In-In instead of out-in if you will. That's where the name stems from.
It's just a name for a hypothetical round of golf at this point.

There's one reason 10-18 makes sense: the baskets get set up for the season, and they don't have to get moved around. Less work = more time for stuff like golf.

I'd also like those rounds to be played on the same course layout. 10-18 twice makes it simple because you know it'll be there both late and early in the season.
