I hate the Shire...well played Shane.

Not really an upset , as he's done that twice to me this year...

That was fun Rico. it was close the entire time.

I have a question about these standings and the playoff schedule.

Why did people who failed to qualify for the playoffs get a berth in the playoffs. Why did Penton get a Bye in the firrst round? If you don't get enough games into qualify you shouldn't hold a place in the playoffs. That makes no sense.

Players who didn't get the required games in should be ejected, along with whatever results they managed to scrape together in a fruitless quest to actually get 4 whole matches in.

The people whom did not play 4 games automatically lost there 1st round game. Penton got a bye because Spike whom ddidn't get enough games into qualify like you said shouldn't hold a place in the playoffs. Thats how it worked. They get sloted in for final rankings. Colin for example who played a few games but had to drop out keeps his points he earned and will earn the PC points/payout etc that he earned during the season. They also get slotted into the tree to keep it symetrical for the whole playoff. If we removed the people who did not play, we would be doing a playoff tree with 12. Awkward. If everyone just played there stupid fucking games everything would be fine smile

Yeah, there is anomalies, a player can play all 6 games (lose them all) and finish off worse then a player who plays 1 game and goes down 4-0. But if thats the case, then the player whom finishes 1st earned the right to play the player who is 0-6 w a +/- of -45.

I agree, but I think they should keep there points, because more often then not they have to quit because something out of the ordinary popped up

But does the player who actually bothered to play all of his matches deserve to finish below the player who only bothered to play one game? +/- is not a good stat to use as a tie breaker without considering the number of games played.

My thoughts are that if you play at least 4 matches, you get ranked in the "A" pool, with everyone else who played at least 4 matches. If you don't play the minimum, you get ranked in the "B" pool and can never place higher than someone in the "A" pool. This would also ensure that the top seeds get the byes in the event of people not playing enough matches to qualify. If you look at our bracket, #1 and #3 had byes, yet #2 had to play to move on to the 2nd round. That doesn't make sense. In this case #2 should get a bye before #3.

Suggestions for next year...

But do you think you should be ranked ahead of Colin? My philosophy is if you cant beat a player in 6 games in points when the other player has played 1 or 2 games, you don't deserve to play a lower seeded player (which i s what would happen if we created a B Pool. If we did it your way you would be playing the 5th seed, or OMR instead of Claus, but you got 3 pts in 6 games, and really you don't deserve the match against a weaker seed. If you Want to move up the tables? Play your 6 games. There was 3 points vs Matt on the board you had sitting there staring at you.

Colin for example should be able to keep his spot in rank, because he earned his points and if you cant pass him when he's played 2 games then really, I dont see why you should place higher then he. The penalty for not playing 4 games is a loss in the playoff, thats good enough IMHO.

I like your thining though Rob,

How's this sound,
Tiebreakers for next year (Pts):
then:
GP
+/-
Holes won
etc

I remember putting in holes won as the 2nd tie breaker to reward more games played, but its never really gotten down to that. This would straighten things out.

But...If a player forfeits a game, is that a Game Played?

I would say no because the player could just forfeit all 6 matches and still make the playoffs.

I think only players who played the required 4 games should be in the playoffs. The rest just gets scrapped. if it is an odd number of people then give #1 bye and it will equalize in the next round.
