There's one. You can call yourselves "On-line Dating". _________________ "A putter, though nice, is not a driver."

Well the TD has been away, but now is back and keen to hone the Tree-Oh file in to a sharp reality.
First off, here is the flyer for the tournament:
8th Ottawa Tree-Oh Challenge
Date: Saturday, August 7, 2010
As has been offered in previous years, the Tree-Oh offers a full day of competition for a low-low price. Teams of three compete head to head in three rounds of golf along with the all-important Skills Competition, where well-balanced teams showcase their talent in the three main shots of disc golf: drives, approach shots and putts.
More info in the next post...

As mentioned in this post, the Tree-Oh is one event in the ODGC's President Cup Series, which is now in its 2nd year.
The format will be identical for both divisions which will allow for comparisons to be made for the Presidents Cup while still having distinct divisions for the participants.
The tournament layout has been designed, and will be known as the "Kanata Quinze", which is similar to the layout used at Ottawa Ice Bowl X, with a few twists. It will be posted within the next few days.
As in previous years, only one member of any "Intermediate" team can be a player who regularly competes in Open or Advanced divisions at Ottawa area tournaments.
Bring your friends and your "A" game, and whatever you do, make sure you do it in the Skills Competition too.
Here are the results from last few editions, held at JCP.
Ottawa Tree-Oh Challenge - 2008
Ottawa Tree-Oh Challenge - 2006
Don't forget that the best team name, as judged by the participants, gets a special team prize... and 'Nekkid Kickboxxxers' is still an available name. |

The Tree-Oh Challenge operates as a fund-raising tournament for the Ottawa Disc Golf Club, and any funds generated beyond what is donated to the club gets re-invested as prizes for my always-full prize table at the next disc golf tournament that I run.

Ok, so I've heard that some people still have a few Q's about the format.
Q: What's a Scramble Round all about?
A: That is the format of the 3rd round, which is the final round of the tournament, coming right after the Skills Competition. In the Scramble Round, team captains set a throw-order that is maintained for the entire round, with players following one another from hole to hole.
e.g. Captain Tony calls his order as Clyde - Marko - Tony, so on the first hole, Clyde drives, Marko makes an approach and Tony putts. If Marko had earned his team a birdie on that hole, Tony would drive on the 2nd hole, followed by shots by Clyde and Marko, and so on.
Q: I hate "Worst Drive" events. Do you have that this year?
A: No, we haven't used any version of Worst Drive for a long time, and it is not offered in any round this year either.
Q: In the first two rounds where you have a quota of drives or scores per person, what happens if we screw it up and have one guy score 6 holes instead of 5?
A: That's a 3-stroke penalty, which is high, but is an effective deterrent. It has never been awarded before, and if it does, you'll likely end up with a dumb disc-golf nickname that you'll never be able to shake off.
Q: How do you determine which division we can play in?
A: Any team can sign up for the Advanced Division, but if you want to enter the Intermediate Division, you're only allowed one player who typically competes in the Open or Advanced division at local tournaments in our region, or at other known events of similar level.
Q: What about the DFL Trophy. I haven't seen it for years - is it offered this year?
A: That depends if I can get it back from the big-arm player who won it years ago... hopefully I'll be able to arrange a coffee-meeting for it this week.
Q: I can't come up with a team name. Can you suggest something for me?
A: Sure, but you might not like it.
Q: I read to the end of this really long post. Is there any special prize for me, just 'cause I'm a keener?
A: Probably. Just post something witty below that says you've read the complete Q & A thread. |
