All TOSS events are played by the official rules of disc golf as dictated by the PDGA.
This is NOT a PDGA event.

This thread contains those clarifications and exceptions that you need to know about.

Common to all events:
  • Show up on time, and we finish on time. Thanks for making the effort!
  • Don't be afraid to call the rules, and be both happy and thankful if you're reminded about playing by them. This is what makes us better golfers.
  • Right-of-way on the course: If two groups find themselves in a position whereby one may not throw unless the other other waits or plays through, the right-of-way is to be yielded to the group throwing at a higher-numbered target (i.e. those on #14 have right-of-way over those on #12).
  • Reasonable decisions made as a group to speed play are allowed without risk of penalty. Speed play is encouraged where daylight is at a premium. Speed play may include:
    • Playing the course out-of-order where doing so does not cause others to have to wait.
    • Throwing out-of-turn.
    • Allowing smaller or faster groups to play through.
  • Read and know the rules that are here, and be helpful to those that do not.

Alternative to Lost Disc Search 803.11(A):
It feels awful to lose a disc, but it's discourteous to try and force a prolonged search. We're dealing with limited daylight, and everyone needs to keep an eye on their disc, all the time. The following allows for a greater search period for a lost disc, while taking less time to play than is required by the rules. Where a player cannot find their disc, as an alternative to 803.11(A) they may:
  • Indicate to the players on their card that they need help finding the disc.
  • Indicate where, approximately, they believe the disc to be.
  • Once all players on the card have gathered and performed a reasonable search of the area in a time period not to exceed that allowed in 803.11(A), the player who's disc is missing is to proceed back to their previous lie. Their disc is not yet considered lost.
  • Those on the card will continue to search for the disc until the player reaches their previous lie and signals that they are there.
  • If the disc has not yet been found, it is now declared lost. If the disc is found before the player makes it to their previous lie, they shall play from the location of the disc without penalty.
  • A player may not spend more than the time indicated in 803.11(A) looking for their disc.
  • Under this method, those on the card may be required to spend more time looking for the disc than is required under the rule, but the end result will be more search time and less time wasted waiting for a player to walk back to their previous lie.
  • If your disc is lost, you can't delay your walk back to your previous lie. A courtesy violation is to be issued if you delay your walk unnecessarily.
Official end of the round:

Each Tuesday round is its own event. Players submit their scores at the end of their round, and adjusted scores are calculated on the spot. Most of the time this happens smoothly and without error. Time pressures make it impossible to verify scores on all cards and still recognize the evening's winners. As such, the event is considered officially finished once any outstanding appeals have been resolved and the first of the following occurs:
  • Adjusted round results are formally posted on the forum.
  • Approximately 24 hours have passed since the last group completes their round.
Where players become aware that their score should be adjusted prior to the official end of the round and where this is permitted by the rules, it will be allowed. If this sees a change in who places in the top spot(s) for an event, any necessary corrections shall be made as soon as possible.

Practice throws:

Practice throws, aka "science shots" have never been, and will never be permitted on Tuesday nights. Penalty: one stroke per practice throw.

Quarterback Challenge Round 3:
  • If you are in the quarterback challenge, you MUST register on time. It's not possible to finalize pools if we're waiting for late arrivals. Take full advantage of pre-registration. It's easy, and it will save your spot.
  • Any player eligible for the QB Challenge that misses the registration deadline in the third round will not be eligible to compete in the quarterback challenge, but can still compete in the adjusted score aspect of the event.

Unregistered Walk-ons:
  • In the spirit of competition, unregistered walk-ons are not welcome on a card.
  • Where a group is approached by an unregistered walk-on, unanimous consent of those on the card is required before an unregistered walk-on is welcomed to the card.
  • Where a card with an unregistered walk-on slows play to the point that it effects the flow of play of other cards, the unregistered walk-on must discontinue playing on any player's request. Failure of the unregistered walk-on to discontinue play will result in a courtesy violation assigned to each player on the card for each throw made by the unregistered walk-on.
  • You must respect the wishes of those on your assigned card to exclude participation by unregistered walk-ons.

The Shire

May 4:

Out of Bounds
The following are OB:
  • The road;
  • any roof;
  • any deck;
  • any garden or flower bed;
  • the hedge line; and
  • the driveway.
If you put your shot in any of these places, play by the rules and either re-throw from the previous lie, or mark 1m in from where it went out. Remember, the OB line is itself OB, so your disc embedded in the hedge is OB.

2m rule: in effect

Edit: Added after TOSS 2010 so as not to be forgotten next year: OB: past trees into open field on hole 2.

Kanata:
May 11 and May 18:

  • We will be playing shorts and longs. Play these in any order.
  • Scorekeepers: Mark the shorts on the front nine of your score card, and the longs on the back nine of your score card.
  • The 2m rule IS IN EFFECT. A disc more than 2m above the playing surface results in a penalty.
  • Out of Bounds:
    • Any throw that leaves the park must be re-thrown from the previous lie. Leaving the park means over the hedge into Terry's back yard, or onto a road. Into the pump house is out of the park. Onto the walking paths or track is not out of the park. Neither is inside the ball diamond.
    • Regular OB includes the track, any pathway or parking lot, and into the ball diamond.
    • The fence is NOT OB on #7. Play it from where it lies.

Special Conditions at Camp Fortune:

May 25

The following applies to all TOSS events at Camp Fortune:
  • OUT OF BOUNDS: The Creek on #13. If your disc is surrounded by water, it is out of bounds. Yes, even if it's stuck on a rock and not actually touching water, if it is surrounded by water, it is OB. You are not OB if you go OVER the creek; just play it from there. Drop zone:There is a drop zone marked with a red flag. The shot is over the road, directly towards the basket. Use of the drop zone is required. No other relief is provided for a disc which lands in the creek. Discs landing in-bounds but within 1m of the creek may be relocated in accordance with the rules.
  • There is NO CASUAL WATER at Camp Fortune. Notwithstanding the above, treat any water that you encounter as though it were not there. Play your disc from where it lies, even if that means standing in water. Players may always elect to declare their stance a dangerous stance, and seek relief under the rules accordingly.
  • The 2m rule is NOT in effect at Camp Fortune.
  • Any disc thrown onto or into a building is OUT OF BOUNDS. Mark your disc according to the rules, and good luck with your next throw.
