The Tuesday night league continues on May 11 at the Kanata Disc Golf Course. We will play the course twice, playing both shorts and longs.
All disc golfers are welcome regardless of ability. Even if you've never played in an ODGC event or tournament, we would like to have you join us for League Nights.
We'll be gathering near the trailhead sign for the course next to the parking lot. We aim to tee off at 6:15pm, so:
Be at the park by 6:00 to register.
Directions to the Kanata course are here: Directions
Do your best to bring exact change. Fees are $5 for everyone. ODGC memberships and the Tuesday Night Registration package ($75) (good for all Tuesday night league events) will be available as well. I'll offer a $5 discount on these to anyone that was at the shire and who purchases a season pass at Kanata this week.

We'll be playing the new CSIS approved layout for the front 3 holes:
There will be two sets of tees for each of the holes drawn above. You're looking at the longs (Blues) and the shorts (Reds) will be shorter.
We'll number the baskets/holes the same as the Oonie--to keep things simple--which means the front 3 will be numbered as they are above and the other 6 will remain the same. |

Still hoping for a generous person to answer the call but time to work on back up plan.
I'm going to try and make it out for that 4:20 round.
Anyone know what bus goes from downtown to Kanata?
Thanks. |

Of course, this happened on a Tuesday night. Thanks to all of you who made the extraordinary effort to get to the course last night.

Brief police pursuit on Queensway results in two-vehicle collision
OPP cruiser was following car with lights, sirens
By Kristy Nease, The Ottawa Citizen May 12, 2010
A short high-speed police pursuit on Highway 417's westbound lanes ended abruptly Tuesday afternoon with a two-vehicle collision in Kanata that sent a minivan onto its roof in a water-filled ditch, and also resulted in a foot chase after one driver fled the scene.
The accident happened at about 2:45 p.m. near a glass-walled footbridge overpass close to Kanata Square, Ontario Provincial Police said.
A grey, 1997 Chrysler Cirrus sedan had been travelling westbound on Highway 417, followed by an OPP cruiser with its lights and sirens engaged, when the Chrysler hit a navy blue Kia Sedona minivan, OPP Const. Guy Prevost said.
The force of the impact thrust the minivan onto its roof in the waterlogged north-side ditch, said paramedics spokesman J.P. Trottier.
The Chrysler, meanwhile, continued westbound on the highway for a short time before the driver lost control and ended up in the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes, Prevost said.
The man driving the Chrysler then tried to flee by running first across the grassy median, then across the 417's eastbound lanes and over a fence into Kanata Square, Prevost said.
Citizen employee Tracy Noble-Botting witnessed the man's flight. She said the man was not wearing shoes, and that an OPP officer was chasing him on foot from about 25 feet behind.
Prevost said bystanders in Kanata Square assisted police by pointing out where the man had run. The man was apprehended on Katimavik Road less than five minutes later.
The pursuit began when an OPP officer who was patrolling the highway's westbound lanes in a marked cruiser near Moodie Drive saw the Chrysler driving erratically, OPP said. The driver of the Chrysler sped up, and the OPP officer turned on the cruiser's lights and sirens to attempt a traffic stop.
Prevost said the officer was not able to catch up to the Chrysler before the accident occurred.
When OPP initiate a pursuit on a highway for a vehicle that refuses to stop, a guideline must be followed, Prevost said. The officer must call a communication centre attendant, who then asks the officer about road conditions, traffic, rates of speed and the reason why the vehicle is being stopped.
"By the time that this was done ... the gentleman had lost control," Prevost said.
The Special Investigations Unit -- which is called in to investigate when incidents involving police result in serious injury or death -- was notified about the collision, but did not attend the scene. "This time they chose not to attend the scene because the injuries were not severe enough," Prevost said.
The 50-year-old woman in the minivan was trapped inside, upside down, for 40 minutes as firefighters worked to rescue her, paramedics said. Water and mud from the ditch was creeping in.
She was conscious and alert, and was treated at the scene for neck pains before being taken to hospital in stable condition, paramedics said.
A witness said she saw the OPP cruiser pursuing the grey Chrysler.
Karen Holland, who spoke from the pedestrian overpass overlooking the scene, had been on her way home from the University of Ottawa and was travelling westbound on the 417 near Moodie Drive.
Traffic on the highway wasn't heavy, and she was travelling with the speed of mid-afternoon traffic at more than 100 km/h.
All of a sudden, Holland said, another car whizzed by her passenger-side doors at a high rate of speed, so close it almost struck the mirror.
"He passed very close and he did a little weave at the same time, and then he tossed out a cigarette," Holland said.
The car was travelling in a designated bus lane, and was being pursued at about the same speed by the OPP cruiser from several car lengths behind, and both the Chrysler and the OPP cruiser moved across three lanes of traffic to continue on the 417, she said.
Holland couldn't see much more of the pursuit, but did see a cloud of dust rise up on the highway before she turned off onto Eagleson Road.
The man who was driving the Chrysler is expected to appear in court this morning for a bail hearing, said Prevost, who would not detail the charges that were expected to be filed.
The westbound portion of Highway 417 between Eagleson and Castlefrank roads was closed Tuesday afternoon and remained closed in late evening.

FYI: Karen Holland is the wife of Paul Holland, Kanata Course founder and ODGC lifetime member. |

...and in other news, Rob Doucettes' handicap falls another three strokes to a 12.2 following his well played round of 53 last night.
That's a drop of over 8 strokes in two rounds.
Keep up this pace, and you'll be shooting close to scratch golf by the time we roll out to Ettyville. |

Paul,
Can you explain how the scratch gets calculated please. Is that the expected score for a 1000 rated golfer at that course?
How does the 1000 rating get calculated? _________________ meh |
