Good to go. Hopefully leaving ~9 am.

We will be drilling new poles for the baskets, so if you got a battery operated drill that would be good. I've got a bunch of bits that should do the trick.

Left at 8:30, had to go to Gatineau to get poles, made it to FM by 11. Ben and I drilled 16 poles and put together 16 complete baskets. Out of FM by 3.

There are 16 baskets lying at the base of #9's green, and two more un-drilled poles. The spikes are nearby, and ready to be put into the ground.

Fairways still look great.

Thanks guys for setting up FM. Sorry I couldn't make it.

Question - why were new poles required. What was wrong with the old ones?

I believe it was so all the poles are a standard length. You'll recall the baskets were at a variety of heights at the Plaid.

Nice work boyz

The old ones were of varying lengths (because of the removal of the concrete) and were designed for a particular basket, at a different era in the ODGC lifetime. With different drilled poles, this lent to different sizes of targets (the amount of chain available to hit with a disc), making some parts of the chains "uncatchable".

There were 4 different types of chain systems; regular "0" shape loops; irregular "0" shape loops; triangular shaped loops; and the Kazaa. The "0" shape loops are the ones we are used to (they're on CF). The triangular loops have different holes for the mounting, therefore needed a different pole than the rest. If a triangular loop was mounted on a "0" loop the basket would sit higher on the pole. If an "0" loop was mounted on a irregular "0" loop it would sit lower. Not a problem if the baskets and poles are kept together, but this didn't happen and it caused the different sizes of targets at the Plaid.

And this doesn't even cover the different size of the poles (some differ up to 11 inches). Some required another part to raise it to an appropriate height. Several poles were also bent.

Now all the baskets have the same target size (20 inches), and all the baskets start at the same spot on the pole. The different chain systems/poles have been spray painted for now, until we come up with another system to match the "different" chains systems to their poles.

The baskets now look like CF baskets, with the Meldrum easy-to-carry-extension poles.

If you have any more questions about the standardization of all the ODGC baskets, please feel free to PM me.

Oh, and to clarify. None of the baskets are in the ground. They are all on the green of 9. It took us 4 hours to deal with the take apart, and put together.

The baskets have all been delivered (but not installed) on to their greens.

If anyone gets inspired before I get back there, there's a hand-held mini sledge hammer on the tool board in the shop and I believe all stakes but 1 are out near green 9.

Love to, Eric. But I gave the clearance for tonight for my wife, last week (which gave me permission for Monday to build the baskets with Ben-e).

I hope to get as much as possible in the ground , CF is out of the ground in a week..!

With a bit of luck , they'll all be installed in daylight.
