Next year we should try to develop rankings for the local scene. How would we do this? 1) we take everyone's best score and rank or 2) we can take each players top 5 scores and avarage.

Well, I don't know the best way to do it, but hell, why wait until next year... let's get started now! smile Here's my personal best 18, which also includes my best 9. I know a lot of you can blow this away, but hey, it's a start:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 TOTAL
----------------------------
OUT 3 3 3 3 4 4 5 4 4 33
IN 3 3 3 3 4 4 3 4 4 31
----------------------------
64

Cheers!

Ken

Well, the simple enough thing would be to
borrow the "handicap" system from ball golf.

Basically, one's handicap is one's average
score based on the 10 most recent rounds.
This reflects an average that also includes
brief slumps or infernos.

Problems arise however, when people play
on more than one course. This requires some
sort of normalization, and each course is
assigned a difficulty rating, so that
handicaps can be determined for different
courses. For example, a +10 for JC (over 1Cool
would be equivalent to being able to play
EVEN at Firefighter's Park in Detroit (or
+15 at Addison Oaks... (Add-on-the-strokes,
as the locals call it...) )

Anyhow, keeping a JC handicap is easy enough.

As a follow-up to my previous post, here is
a concrete example of what I was describing.
It all depends on my questionable memory
however...
date score handicap
29-Sep-98 5
5
0
03-Oct-98 3
5
1
7
10-Oct-98 1
16-Oct-98 6
5 3.80 (10th round. --> start averaging
27-Oct-98 4 3.70 most recent 10 rounds)
3 3.50

This BB really messes up formatted stuff.
Anyway to change the software so that
sequential blanks are not all compressed into
ONE space only.

My handicap chart was so attractive to start
with, sorrily now, it looks like crap.

Oh vell, hope it's decipherable.

Hey Darco,
I assume it originally looked something like this:

date score handicap
--------------------------------
29-Sep-98 5
5
0
03-Oct-98 3
5
1
7
10-Oct-98 1
16-Oct-98 6
5 3.80 (10th round. -->
start averaging
27-Oct-98 4 3.70 most recent 10
rounds)
3 3.50

Anyway, I'm sure everyone gets the idea... it
looks tres simple...

Cheers!

Ken
