Join us on October 21st at 9:30am @ Twin Lakes and support two great causes

This shot was taken recently on Thanksgiving Sunday, and the long range weather looks good so you can expect much of the same on the day of the event. Sign up now... especially new players! smile

The address for the event is:

1634 Lakeshore Drive, Greely, ON

which is about 20 minutes drive South of Carleton University.

Registration: 09:00 - 09:30
Tournament begins: 10:00

To speed things along in the morning, you can pre-pay through Interac or PayPal through this e-mail address: pegg.larry@gmail.com.

You can call or text with any questions to me at: 613.769.8869

Last year in late October we had a great day of Twin Lakes First Flight disc golf and raised over $400 for the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre and the Ottawa Food Bank (Split 50/50). With their official appreciation in hand we'll engage a wider group of people and aim for $1000 plus. Dan Phillips killed the advanced course with an impressive day. Steph Clavel won the Women's division and Chris Bourne won the Intermediate honours. We're expecting them back to defend their Twin Lakes titles.

There are 35 spots available as a max (so far) and this year, and with the tournament held a full eight days earlier, the leaves will be in brilliant colour in this beautiful setting on 2 small lakes near the border of Greely and Osgoode.

This year's pop-up course will feature two full rounds of 18-20 holes in four divisions. Our "A-hole" island hole may return depending on the weather.

Divided into 10 front and 9-10 back format. The Front 10 is close to Disc Central. There are 4 new holes (3 minute walk) on the back of the smaller of the two lakes, they are currently being cleared for play with tractor and grooming equipment. There are six holes near Disc Central, with four of those being brand new. The new Front 10 layout addresses concerns from last year's inputs.

The entry fee includes lunch, which will be from Franks Catering and Baked Goods and was well-received last year. Bring cash for dinner if you're staying (we'll probably order in pizza).

Please also bring some extra cash for the charity side games, including the CTP 50/50 competition at the end of the day, a "Mystery Box", a Kan Jam competition and more. The CTP event will be $5 for three throws, with a maximum of two rounds per player, and with the top-5 players going to a second round sudden victory.

We're planning an Open Mic music event during and after the awards portion and a bonfire in the evening hours so stick around to celebrate the season. If there are any musicians that play guitar or percussion please consider coming. Old Man River has talent for one. Let me know.

Our divisions are as follows:

1. Par Excellence (Advanced) long and long
2. Parity (Intermediate) short and long
3. Para-Bella (Women) short and short
4. Party (Novice and fun) short and short

Sign up here in this thread and indicate the division you'd like to enter. Payment can be made on the day, or in cash at The Plaid Jacket, as I will be there competing and answering any questions you have on our 2nd annual charity disc golf tournament. The entry fee is $35, with $10 of that paying for your lunch, and $25 going to the charities.

The Front 10 holes have names:

1. Sumac Ridge
2. Hobo Shack
3. Ace Tunnel
4. Lake Anhyzer
5. Sandy Ridge
6. Bushwhacker
7. Hedgerow
8. Muskoka Beach
9. Sumac Point
10. Line Dance

The back 9 looks like this, located in a long well-manicured park that overlooks a long lake.

The Island hole shown above as #12 is more commonly referred to as "The A-Hole", for reasons that you may soon find out. Practice your flicks or anny's now and you may just gain a stroke or two on the others in your division.

If you miss the island on your first shot, there will be a far more friendly Drop Zone, where if you have to use it, you can help yourself to Halloween Candy in the Drop Zone markers, which are made from Cones & Cookie Tins.

Hi Larry,

Not sure I can make this event yet. However I noticed you dont have driving directions or map to the course. I think that would be helpful

Cheers

Glad to have you both aboard for the tournament.

Hasty - what is your real name and which division would you like to enter?

More players and sponsors have been signing up for our full day of fun in the sun out at Twin Lakes in Greely/Osgoode.

If you are likely able to make it out, even if you're not sure yet, please post your name below and we'll have a card made out for you in the division of your choice.

Bring along a non-playing friend or two for the "Party Division" as it would be a good entry-level event for them.

During the first round, players from the Parity, ParaBella and Party divisions will be mixed up on the same cards so that the newer players have people to learn from. The second round will be seeded by score and division as usual.

Our volunteers are busy preparing everything from Division winner wooden prizes (thanks to Luke McCormick), a custom dyed champion's disc (thanks to Andrew Kauffmann) and our scoreport and round cards (thanks to Don Lane).

More course work is ongoing today to make everything in top shape for the day of our event.

There is still room for more players. Send me a PM in the forum, or an e-mail pegg.larry@gmail.com, sign up below, or post on the Facebook group.

May the spirit of us all bless Gord Downie, for his spirit has and will always bless us

For reasons that might seem strange, I've always been moved by the music of Gord, in the same way I am moved by the music of Bruce Springsteen. They both spoke to the working man and the working woman, however, in my opinion, Gord did us proud because he went deeper, angrier, and it came to us in a cascade of celebration and outrage. He challenged us all to go deeper. So let us all go deep.

Before we heard about his cancer I had done an arrangement that included Bruce and Gord. My intention was to include it on my next CD. I just played it now and found it to be extremely moving so I thought I'd share that with you guys and girls. I hope I'll play it at open mics I'm doing on Thursday and Friday. Hopefully I'll play it again at Twin Lakes.

If you don't already have plans it would be great to celebrate disc golf a beautiful day, some great charities and also pay tribute to a beautiful man that we've lost today but not forever.[/b]

If you are going to the upcoming Twin Lakes tournament in Greely / Osgoode and are passing through the central part of the city (on Somerset St. W.) we have two visiting players from Calgary who would appreciate a lift. Let me know if you can help them out and I'll get you in touch with them.
