My Father in law, Terry, is pursuing the Mississippi Mills Township council about the possibility of opening a disc golf course in Gemmil Park in Almonte. They are looking for members to join their Facebook page a sign of support for the course. Please go to the following link and ask to be a member:

Terry and I have walked the park and I agree. I think there could be some holes in that park.

It's funny that this happened now. I've been scoping that park and looking at their budget and plan to see if there was an in there. Terry has laid that ground work on his own and now we need to convince them to put it in. _________________ If you can't win the event in regulation, try, try, try again. |

You two (Roxie et Terry) should put your proposals together to get the best one. |

To whomever might be interested, we have available the ODGC NCC Placemaking proposal document from 2014, which is a great starting point template forthese other local initiatives. We modified it for Chris Morrison's Carleton Place proposal, council was very impressed with it. Would be glad to make yet another update for Almonte if it would help. Let me know. |

If you can get it to me, I'll pass it on to Terry. I'm sure he'll be glad for any input and help available. |

Anything to help, let me know.
Side note; digging for the baskets should be complete by next week for the small CP 3 basket course.
Perfect for mid rage practising and putting and learning the basics. _________________ Here's lookin' at you kid |

For those of you not on the Facebooks, Terry has this updated posted.
"I received the following information from the Culture and Recreation Department today. The 2016 budget got passed on Tuesday night. The disc golf course has been included in the overall plan for Gemmill Park, which Council has reviewed and doesn't have any issues with. The plan will be going to the public for input at some point in the next couple of months. But at this point in time I think everything is looking great." _________________ If you can't win the event in regulation, try, try, try again. |

Also this:
"Is that disc golf bag getting a little too full? Well I might just have a solution to your problem. Part of our presentation to town council included providing the library with some discs that they would lend out like books or DVDs. I have contacted the Chief Librarian and hope to be meeting with her later this week. She would like to work out some details before they can fully commit. If all goes as planned we will be looking to provide the library with about 12 discs, ideally 4 putters, 4 mid range and 4 drivers for the Almonte branch. If we could get some more we might be able to supply the Pakenham branch with a couple of sets also. For now I would just like to put the idea out there that we may be looking for someone to take on the job of soliciting discs." _________________ If you can't win the event in regulation, try, try, try again. |

So not to ruin the plan Carl but I did the same thing with the south mountain library branch. The branch itself was fine with lending disc's but the provincial head office told them they couldn't rent out sports equipment. The end result was that I gave them a bunch of disc's that they can't tell anyone are there and no one knows about.
I hope it goes better for you. |

Odd to hear this report.
It seems to be a matter of spin and nuance.
For the past while there have been trail usage fees for cross-country skiing in the Gatineau Park. Each branch of the Ottawa Public Library has a few ski passes that people can borrow for a couple days to avoid paying the fees.

What would the Provincial head office say about that ? |

Good news! The course layout has been approved and we just need to get a locate done on the basket locations for utilities. Once that is done shovels can hit the ground. If anyone is interested in lending a hand putting this course in, I will let you know when the work days will be planned.
In the meantime if anyone has a line on 4x4's or metal sign posts let me know as we are on the hook for the tees and signs. Thanks. _________________ If you can't win the event in regulation, try, try, try again. |

Ok folks, anyone interested in helping install 9 shiny new baskets and tees? Terry, Cameron and I went out a marked all the locations today and cut a few paths. The plan is to meet May 14th at noon in the parking lot of the rink in downtown Almonte. The plan is to dig holes and set the sleeves in concrete and allow those to cure overnight. We also need to sink 3 4x4 tees per hole into the ground. There is also some trimming needed on a couple of holes.
We will be back on Sunday morning to assemble the baskets and drop them into the sleeves. Then we'll break this baby in
If you'd like to help out with any of these activities, we'd love the help. PM me or post here if you are interested.
Things to bring:
We need a pick axe if anyone has one laying around.
Shovel
Spade
Prunner
Rake
May need a large water container
Wagon to haul said water
Gloves _________________ If you can't win the event in regulation, try, try, try again. |
