Plaid Jacket Rules 2014 Edition

The Canadian Golf and Country Club has once again been kind enough to let us all enjoy the Plaid Jacket at their facility. There are a few special rules in place to ensure that we are welcomed back to this amazing golf course. Please respect them at all times.

House Rules:

• No Food or drink brought into the country club.

• Please no Cleats.

• Sand trap must be avoided, but raked if entered

• Greens are O.B. and to be avoided. (try not to throw overhand or spike hyzers around the greens)

• Water Traps are O.B. Your disc can be retrieved without entering the water.

• Disc marks must be replaced.

• Carts are to stay on the cart path or driven 90 degree across the fairways.

Frost – Unfortunately if there is frost on the ground the morning of the Plaid we are not able to be on the course at all until the frost is gone. This means no walking the course or warming up on the grass. This is very important; walking on the grass will damage it. This may mean starting time will be delayed in cause of frost.

I'll be in the big city for the weekend (Riders game) and going to the Plaid!!!

Is there someone I can get a lift who is leaving after the 2nd round? I have to get to the airport for an evening flight.

If there is enough participation and interest to do so I can open up a another AM category and have AM1 and AM2.

The Plaid is a community event and as such runs on the generosity of its community.

If you or someone you know has any prizes to donate for CTPs and/or the Ring of fire please get in touch with me.

As well if there are any sponsors that would like to support the Plaid are always appreciated.

I need a quick history lesson.

When did the Plaid Jacket Divsion become Open? And why?

I always thought PJD was AM1?

As far as I can tell this change occured in 2011.

The Plaid Jacket Division is the Open division because it is open to all who wish to play in it, regardless of gender, age or skill.

It is also an amateur division as the winner has never won cash.

In the past the name of the top division has been called the Advanced division. It has never been called the "Pro" division.

...and from memory, it was called the Advanced division to keep the much better (at the time) Toronto and South Ontario professional players from coming up and taking the Ottawa championship down south with them.

As the players in Ottawa became better and at par with many of the rest of the Ontario players, the division didn't need to be called the Advanced division (which is what the PDGA officially calls what we call AM1). As well, players in Ottawa were winning money at other PDGA events and no longer being registered with the PDGA as an Amateur, but instead as a "Professional".

A quick idea of the different divisions from past Plaids were explained with the following:

Quote:
The Plaid Jacket Division ($60/$65)

The Open Division. This division is for the more competitive golfers in the region and is open to all who wish to play. They will play the Yellow tees.

The Women's Division ($50/$45)

The only gender specific division at The Plaid. The winner will be a Plaid Jacket Champion. The tees are still being discussed.

The AM Division ($50/$45)

The AM division (also known as AM2) is a competitive division for golfers who want to enjoy The Plaid Experience on a course designed for their skill level. An ODGC Member with a handicap >10 might be considering this division. The tees are still being discussed.

The Recreation Division ($50/$45)

The Rec division (also known as AM3) is for the first year player or the developing player. You can play some wicked holes, watch some good golfers and take in The Plaid Experience for the first (or second...or third) time. They will play the Blue tees all day.
