And of course, this is the Rec League I'm going to miss.

I'm going to be bringing "The Skylands Classic 2006" and the "2004 Worlds" (featuring a guest appearance by Steve Rydell) DVDs to Thursday League tonight to get into circulation.

If you have any of my DG DVDs out there in Ottawa Disc Golf Land, get them into others hands and DVD players!

Another beautiful night of disc golf out at Kanata. Sure, the ground is pretty yellow, but that just makes for better skips, right?!

A truly great putting clinic put on by Geoff Penton tonight. Smooth, informative, and punchy; Penton is a great golfer who knows how to instruct. (Imagine that). I may or may not have cursed hi name for the first six holes, but I'm certain that I'll be more than grateful in no time. A GIANT THANK YOU to you, Geoff, for donating your time this evening! It was very much appreciated!

Lots of first time Rec Leaguers out tonight, and a couple of brand new golfers. Ben and Mark, you chose a great night to start! Jamie, a rare non-duplicate name for this club, managed to get in his first rec league recorded round, welcome Jamie!

Unknown to Penton, he had a bit of a challenger for best score tonight, as Mike Adams shot a 49, but our Fearless Leader managed to edge into the top spot by shooting a 47. Penton is bringing home a $5 gift certificate to Chapters, a donation from last year's OMPL players pack. Good shooting sir!

One of our newest players, Ben, got in a value-added workout during his round, shooting an 80. In the process, he also managed to eek in the highest score on #9, earning him a pretty pink soft Magnet for the former and a brand new Kanata DGC Cyclone for the latter. Congrats Ben!

In a hotly contested CTP on #1, Atos juuuust grabbed up a sweet star Vulcan, which he donated to, of all people, Mark. May that Vulcan work well for you Mark!

And now to a disturbing Rec League trend. There were only three players with established scores this evening (more than fine), and not even one of them managed to better their personal bests (for shame). Admittedly, it is more than admirable that Leppy is playing with his wrong hand and still shooting well. This normally-a-sandbagging-lefty shot only 2 worse than his PB (beating the other two by a single stroke) to earn himself a SUPER sweet orange Z Buzzz. Congrats Leppy!

Hope to see you next week, where the fun continues!

Clinic Notes

Topics:
thumbsup How to pick your putter

- everything depends on "feel"; how it feels in your hand
- don't have to putt with a "putter"; sometimes a 180g Roc or Buzzz is the best to throw (like in the wind)

thumbsup When to use your putter

- inside the 30’/10m circle; outside of that use your approach (especially from 75’ out)
- when you have your putter in your hand, your eyes NEVER leave the target

thumbsup How to use your putter

- get a comfortable grip that allows at least a couple of fingers on the inside edge; try the disc-on-top-of-head tip
- thumb more towards the middle of the disc

thumbsup Putting rules

The Rule 803.04 Stance, Subsequent to Teeing Off wrote:
C. Any throw from within 10 meters or less, as measured from the rear of the marker disc to the base of the hole, is considered a putt. A follow-through after a putt that causes the thrower to make any supporting point contact closer to the hole than the rear edge of the marker disc constitutes a falling putt and is considered a stance violation . The player must demonstrate full control of balance before advancing toward the hole.

thumbsup Putting skills: Breathe, Balance and Boom

- BREATHE – inhale during recoil – hold breath - exhale at release – this eliminates the bouncing
- BALANCE – push up on your front toes, by using your back leg to push towards the target, and use your back leg and non-throwing arm to balance the movement forward toward the basket
- BOOM – exhale, say the word “BOOM”, mean it and open your hand as part of the throw and hold your pose for all the fans to see.
