A new course, a new TD, beautiful pasture land, and cows! What could go wrong?!?!

On August 13, 2011, the ODGC and Mark Atos bring you the Inaugural Throwdown in Cowtown, in scenic and picturesque Mallorytown, Ontario.

Cowtown is a 100% new, privately owned and operated 18 hole disc golf course a-la Alcove, Ettyville and The Shire. Cowtown has one set of tee pads, and beautiful, and (at times) challenging terrain. Most holes are "Tonal" baskets, though every effort will be made for the Throwdown to replace Tonals with baskets. With water in play on at least two holes, elevation changes, and a cliff-top tee box, you'll most likely enjoy the course for the course itself. Offered at the good grace of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon and Jane Atos, Mark's parents are happy to host a disc golf tournament on their pasture land, and are quoted as saying "You lot better not mess up our land, or we're goin' ta get tha shotgun!"

The Inaugural Throwdown in Cowtown is a one-day, two-round event, with a Super 6, time permitting, for the Top 4 positions in Division A.

A few details about the tournament:
1. Limited to 35 participants.
2. Two rounds of 18 holes, with a "Super 6" playoff, time permitting.
3. $15.00 ODGC Members
4. $23.00 ODSA Members
5. $30.00 Non-Members
6. No Cash payouts. Trophies for Division winners.
7. Three divisions (A, B, and C)
8. Add $5.00 to entry fees for a provided lunch.

Registration opens now, by PM to "lissyssil" (Mark Atos), your Tournament Director, or by e-mail to mark@markatos.net. Your registration is not confirmed and locked until payment has been made to the TD. Registration closes when 35 players have registered and paid, or, at 9:00am, Saturday, August 13, 2011.

At the close of registration, the field will be divided into three even divisions, based, in the case of ODGC members with a handicap, on their handicap. Non-ODGC and non-ODSA members will be subjectively assigned to divisions by the TD. Following publication of the draft Divisions, players will have the opportunity to "play-up", by declaring themselves of a higher division to the TD. Players will not be provided the opportunity to "play-down."

Player's meeting will occur at 10:00 am
Round 1 Start Horn will sound at 10:30-10:40 am
Lunch approximately 1:10-2:15
Round 2 Start Horn will sound at approximately 2:30
Super 6 will start at approximately 5:00
Awards and closing ceremony at approximately 6pm.

Please note the abnormally late start time for this tournament. In order to make this event appealing to out-of-town guests (which is all of you), I've tried to plan it as a true single-day event, meaning you can travel to the tournament the morning of, and return home that night.

Cowtown is located approximately 5km north of Mallorytown, Ontario (Exit 675 off the 401). It is about a three hour drive from the DVP and 401 (Toronto), 90 minutes from Downtown Ottawa, and approximately 2 hours from Montreal.

Poster to follow. Course preview available Saturdays and Sundays by appointment with the TD.

Aw, not another freaking tournament; my other half is going to kill me!

This does sound tempting and like a lot of fun. It's penciled in as as a good possibility for me.

Is division C approximately equal to what we know as AM2?

The divisions will be split in such a manner that 1/3 of the ODGC participants are in Div A, 1/3 in Div B, and 1/3 in Div C. Div A will probably be a hybrid of Open and AM1, Div B will probably end up being primarily AM1, with some higher ranking AM2 players, and Div C will probably be a hybrid of AM2 and AM3.

You have two players registered but 34 spots open.
Is the max 35 actually 35+TD?

Thanks Shane, you make a good point. And that's why the divisional breakdown will not be made until registration closes. smile

I will do my best to bring people from Kingston up to this. Not the best players but fantastic people. This would be a good first turny for most of them. Would you mind if I contact Kingston Ultimate, Rideau Acres for posting a flyer and invites from my FB list? Rideau Acres attracts alot of RV Disc golfers and I run into people playing almost everytime I am out there. Most of them are playing with my lost discs and can't throw past the red tee pad but they seem to enjoy the game enough to be playing it every day of the week.

I will be in Kingston Easter weekend and would love to come out to the cowtown course. Will you be around that weekend?

I should be there on April 24 & 25, the Sunday and Monday of Easter. Once I get the flyer done, I'd be glad to have you post it up in Kingston, and to contact Kingston Ultimate.

And, in response to your e-mail from yesterday, since everyone should know, there is camping about 5km from the course, at the KOA in Mallorytown. A one night stay there in August on a tent site with no hookups is $38.00.

Mark, I'm tentatively interesting in coming on Monday. I just have to confirm a few things first (timings among the things to confirm). I will let you know soonest.

Less than a month away. If you're not playing frolf that weekend, you should be! PM me to sign up. If more than 15 people sign up, there will be cash payouts for all divisions!

At capacity of 35 players, there will be approximately $80 to be divided amongst the top 3 players in each division.

Come, play, win money!
