I do agree in part with Rolly that nobody played any of the drop zones like it was a round. Nobody had anything to lose or gain so there is no way to be in the correct mentality for a proper attempt. If you think you were in the right mindframe you are wrong. I have nothing against this being the way to decide where the DZ ends up but I do think it is not the player's right to choose such things, it is the decision of a TD or a course designer.

Yeah, but a diligent TD or course designer will collect this kind of information.

My 2c,

An OB drive should have a player facing bogey.

Some water holes, such as the old A hole at JCP, had a long stretch of shore, so fortunate OBs had good circle-3 odds, while others did not.

CF 13 is kind of like No. 1 at LNF. Run the basket, miss, easy circle 3.
Understandable that we want to avoid this situation.

The DZ should be 35 to 40 ft out, for sure a makeable distance, but low odds. There should also be low odds of a 2nd OB from the DZ as well.

Because the shot from the T on longs is so righty themed I would put the DZ in a spot where the DZ makes a righty do a tough 45ft annie put/approach where if not concentrating could easily have it hyzer out for a tough circle four, but executes a nice approach has an easy 4. If they want to be a hero and go for the 2.....

Right where I was going Ken.

I'll put it this way. A drop zone shot can't ever be considered a "putt". It has to be considered a chip or a "mid" shot. If you are shooting back across the creek where there is "less" chance of OB then that I'd question that design as it would appear you've taken the "OB" shot out of the equation. A shot you should still have to make.

The DZ should/could shorten the tee shot BUT it should still be the "same" shot with all the same factors except distance to the highest degree possible.

To me that's DZ design.

The one I saw at the goat was interesting, maybee the shortest DZ I'll see, nice tough shot, but lets get that creek in play again big grin

An RH annie shot from near the bridge? That one was probably #1.

#2 was a step or two out to make it a straighter shot.

#3 was a CC DZ several years ago. It's out towards the road ~27' from the basket.

#4 was across the creek. Walk over the bridge and take a quick right, walk 5 steps, and there you go.

{Ah-hem} Kinda like the old #1 at LNF. You run the basket at where it's been for the past 3 or so years and you've got a 30'+ putt back to make. Not an easy circle 3.

Yes, old No. 1. The updated No. 1 was a good improvement.
