3.6 Tour Player Media and Sponsor Relations

A. All participants agree that the PDGA and its agents may publish photographs and other kinds of images of their participation at PDGA sanctioned events.

B. All players at PDGA Elite Series/National Tour and Major events are requested to be available to any and all media while on site except during or within 30 minutes of the start of a competitive round.

Why is that terrible?

If I am covering an event, I would expect that the players involved (at the high levels that this is aimed at) would be available to speak to me within a reasonable time frame.

I agree that making players available to the media is very important in spreading the word but 30 minutes before a comp I am not going to be in the frame of mind to talk to the media. 30 minutes before a comp is time for focus and preparation

Totally correct, the mando media appearances should be after the rounds each day, like in almost any sport

After the round

Media - Do you know where we can find Climo and Doss and Barsby?

Spokesman - They are in that van in the parking lot with all the smoke rolling out of it

What if they want to talk to you between holes? Or just before a big putt? You're one site and it's outside the identified thirty minutes.

Yes, you can decline an interview/comment, but I don't think they should have the right to approach you during play in the first place.

I'm not advocating during play. I don't have a big problem with the rule. During my university football days, we would often have questions from reporters after warm-up and heading into the locker room prior to the game (usually about 20-25 minutes before kickoff). After that point, we were 'unavailable' until after the game. It was part of 'what you did as a player'.

I just don't find the rule all that terrible. I would rather this be enforced and help grow the game.

I think it's being read wrong.

"to be available to any and all media while on site except during(,) or within 30 minutes of the start(,) of a competitive round."

With the addition of commas it includes the round.

I'm not against players giving interviews or being approached by media.
I don't like that the rules have a loophole to allow being approached during play.
